pAny one got any clue on how to setup a basic network between 2 pcs using a belkins 4 port switch? I,m having problem getting it to work.

Actually, if you have 2 PCs, you can network them directly via cross-over cable. I don't need a switch/hub.

However, with the hub/switch, it is easy to expand the network if you have more PCs in the future.

    1. Connect 2 PCs to the hub/switch by patch(aka straight) cable.
    2. Set the IP address of the main PC to: 192.168.0.1
    3. Set the IP address of the second PC to: 192.168.0.2, gateway: 192.168.0.1.

Or, you can go into the Settings/Network Connections, and run "Set up a home or small office network". It will show the steps to set it up.

The netgear package is suitable for anyone who uses ADSL broadband (i.e. connecting to broadband internet via phoneline).

The Linksys package (from the original poster) is suitable for anyone who uses cable network (e.g. NTL, Telewest...).
  • Thanks for the reply svkhtn,

Where is the best place to buy the netgear stuff? have looked but cant find a link or code that works?

    maybe you could pm me?

    Regards

Thanks to the post highlighting the Amazon/Netgear DG834GT 108mbps wireless ADSL router and WG511T PC card adaptor offer. Total cost before applying gift vouchers was £52.45 with free supersaver delivery

I had seen the offer for the free PC/laptop adaptor on the Amazon website earlier in the year and had been contemplating buying this package anyway. Now that they've reduced the items whilst maintaining the original discount AND made an error in calculating the discount, well it would have been rude not to... :j

I know other people I gave the code to today managed to order okay...but I just tried and got the error message saying " Important Message
This order does not meet the eligibility requirements for this offer. Please refer to the details in your promotional offer for further information." Maybe it's because I have already used the voucher code once... maybe it is one per customer?

I just retried it on the GT model but got the error message as above... I put in the same order as I entered on Friday... but no joy. Do you know what the T&Cs are on the offer? Where is the code from? Is it one per customer? Maybe that is why I got the error message.
