I don't know why the code was removed even I put in the voucher section

the code was removed from your Grabbit post as Martin has requested that codes are only posted in the Online Discount Vouchers board, none are allowed to be posted on Grabbit. This post by Martin at the beginning of the Grabbit board explains his reasons.
  • So which is it to be then

    Linksys or Netgear??

I am looking at running 2 desktops and a laptop from a wireless connection. My ISP is currently Eclipse internet

I didn't mean the code from Grabbit which was removed.
I meant the thread I created after that in the voucher section:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=883011#post883011

(it might violate the rules there as well ???)

    Thanks,

Been reading MSE for a few weeks now, and thought it's time to register with what I've found.

On Amazon, using the links mentioned, and the code. I have ordered the Netgear DG834GT 108Mbps, and the Netgear WG111T 108Mbps for only £52.98!

    Yes £52.98 :D

I was hovering about buying this - but with another £10 off plus I had a £5 voucher for filling in a survey a while back - I've gone for it! £47.98 total! Many thanks.
  • I have no idea about any of this stuff really so I would really like abit of help if that is possible. We currently have the internet on one comp but wish to create a wireless connection the the laptop in another room. Can someone tell me the items that I need to do this and give any advice on products that are any good? Our ISP is AOL (for my sins!). Thanks to anyone who can help :-)

These items will be ok I think (Im not with AOL though so not sure), although you won't need your modem anymore. The alternative is the original poster's £50 set from Comet as it doesnt have a modem so will save you a bit. Think thats a better idea. I believe it isnt for Cable and is for ADSL. Im sure someone will correct me if Im wrong...:)

AOL provides ADSL connection. The modem they provided to you is the USB one. Hence, the netgear kit is the right one for your networking.

The linksys router from the original poster is suitable for NTL/Telewest because they provide cable modem with RJ45 output.

It's pity that the Amazon's netgear didn't support mine cable modem. the reason I want to get the netgear one is for future proof , I might change from NTL to other ISP in future.

placed an order for the adsl modem for a mate since ive got cable. Any one got any clue on how to setup a basic network between 2 pcs using a belkins 4 port switch? I,m having problem getting it to work.

ps just wondering can u switch off the modem part of the netgear and use your current modem, so just making use of the router only?

I think you can still use the Netgear as a Wireless Access Point+Switch for your cable modem. It means you can share the internet from your cable modem to other machines via wired or wireless connection using the Netgear. However, in this case, it is a bit waste because you will not use the built-in modem (of the netgear) and the firewall/router funtionality.
