Argos are doing a special offer on the Belkin ADSL modem/Hi-speed Wireless Router with free Hi-speed Wireless Notebook Network Card for £79.99. I think the offer ends on 20th Sept.

Lookup the Kcorp Lifestyle KLG-575, it gets some very good reviews and is well priced. It's a super-g access point (108mbps "potentially") for around £40, and you can pickup a wireless g card seperately for around £15, or a super-g card for £25. I've not seen better for the price/performance.

  • thanks this one looks good, but shouldn't it have wifi certification in order to ensure comaptability?

An 'access point' is not the same thing - you know this (! ?).

The Linksys bundle is still a very good deal.

It's even cheaper at Ebuyer, and also for not much more you can go for a better model - this bundle at EBuyer : I have it, and it works great.

Sorry, I thought the Linksys mentioned was just an access point. Never seen that model to be honest, the WAP54G and WRT54G are the two models I'm common with.

The Kcorp is in fact a router itself, more than just an access point, so it can do everything the Linksys can do, but at 108mbps ("potentially" double) rather than 54mbps.

It should be fully backward compatible. I can't say personally as I run super-g nic's but from Aetheros (chip maker) and the manufacturers (Kcorp, Netgear, DLink, Linksys) who also have super-g products have said it should be. It is after all 802.11g but on speed, so to speak, and you can usually disable the super-g functionality anyway which would render it a standard 802.11g device.

  • will this work on adsl lines or is it just cable lines.
