I am disabled and would like to ask if anyone has used Autoaid or can suggest any other policies, I am currently with Gem which I took out last year from this site but they want £65 this year for renewal.

I have used the A.A. before but that was £83 and so was the R.A.C.

    Thank-you.

    Unicorn.

I am not sure that your disability will affect the service you get in any way.
I broke down in May and had my disabled mother-in-law with me. She found it very difficult to get into the cab of the recovery truck which was high off they ground, but they are all like that so I think you will get the same problems with any organisation.

As far as I can tell from what people have said, AutoAid are fine, although you need to be aware that it is a pay and claim service.

I get mine via quotelinedirect.com which is about £60.
It's very good value for platinum cover inculding Europe and spouse, but probably not the cheapest for your circumstances.

    UNICORN:

You are disabled and you are aware that you can get the full AA/RAC cover at a reduced price (£83) which is a little over half the normal price.

As AUTOAID does not have its own fleet you will have no idea if the breakdown recovery service that is called out will be able to take account of your disability, whether they will attend more quickly because of your disability, whether it's more likely that they will recover the vehicle rather than repair it at the roadside because they do have the necessary equipment etc etc.

I suspect that the likes of RAC/AA etc are more likely to repair your vehicle at the roadsie and take account of your disability if you and your vehicle have to be recovered.

Also, if you have a breakdown and you have no cash with you, what will you do if with AUTOAID?

Another problem that can arise is a possible dispute between an insurance company and the breakdown organisation about who is responsible for what. If you get your breakdown recovery through your insurance company then there can be no dispute as who is responsible; the insurance company always is!

Hope that has given you a few things to think about.

our auto recover is due 1st Sept, currently with Brittania rescue. We only need home start oer on wife's car, but from Dec will need to add my car for cover, after free citroen cover finishes.

Any suggestions on a good quality reliable service? Need home start, and on ward travel and tow service.

The autoaid offer seems a bit too good to be true//£29 for joint cover, although it is claim based.

Compared to Britannia renewal offer at £105. next cheapest is Autoaid (Autonational) non claim based at £85.

Can anyone offer any experiences of using autoaid (good or bad) in order I can assess before to assist my decision.

Can't comment on Auto Aid but I recently got mine with First Call (via moneysupermarket).
I haven't used them yet, but platinum cover (roadside, recovery, at home and onward transportation) was £40 for the car (any driver).

For the extra £11. I would rather not have the hassle of claiming.

    Previously I got mine via
    https://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk
which is £60 and includes Europe.
I used them twice and can recommend them.

I only switched because I am no longer travelling to Europe so wanted something cheaper.

at the end renewed cover with Autoaid at £29, comapred to £57 for one person cover with autonational. They are both teh same company, the call operator convinced me that there is no main difference between autoaid and autonational except
    -Auto aid is claim based
-Autoa aid home start is limited to £45

considering we have only ever called out a breakdown service once in the past few years for a homestart, i have decided to take the price into account versus likelihood of needed assistance.
We will see how it goes...any probs and i will let you know.

Firstcall, do not cover assistance due to vandalism and broken glass, and loss of fuel. Autoaid and Autonational cover all these.

I hve just called AutoAid and now I am highly confused: I just wanted a breakdown insurance starting 8/09/04 but well that did not seem that easy... so eventually I asked for a brochure. Could anybody tell me what they ask for exactly ?

I joined autoaid and the service they offer via the £29 scheme, through my understanding is that its the same as there non-claim based service on https://www.autonational.co.uk.

They cover everything from home start and onward travel, only thing is homestart is limited to £45 call fees.
If you think how often you may need there help its worth i see. They have 24 hr call line.
  • I work for Norwich Union Direct who offer a stand alone Breakdown policy called NU Rescue. Although the product is branded as NU's own, it is actually operated and supported by the RAC and is very very good value so long as your car is not very old. The deal is even better because just now there is a promotion running which sees any of the breakdown packages sold at HALF PRICE for the identical level of cover.

To take advantgae of this offer, simply call 0800 096 4704 between 8am and 10pm and quote the reference: CQM1. This is a superb offer and the full package of homestart, roadside and relay with onward travel cost me £28 for a 2000 Peugeot 206. JUts don't forget the reference number!!!
