Roadside Recovery Policies Discussion

just read through all this post, for first time. Seems like a very good price Auto Aid at £28. But, personally i prefer to pay an extra few pounds for a policy that i would probably ever need to ensure a smooth & quick recovery, touch wood only ever had to call out for 2 home starts.
Currently with Brittania resuce for over 2 years, we pay about £90 for 2 named drivers (any car) and 1 named car. This includes an extra discount, if a member is a teacher (but they dont check). But i will shop around at renewal time.0 -
Has anyone used the Pru, their car insurance includes full Greenflag Breakdown Cover, but at what premium I dunno.? Anyone compared prices?Moi....?

Martin asked me to say I'm a volunteer Board Guide on the Utilities board, facilitating its smooth running. I can move & change posts there. However I do not read every post.

You'd think the big motoring organisatins could all afford 6-litre Chevvie recovery vehicles by now! I went to the hyperlinked website and 'applied'; AutoAid didn't get a mention. The cheapest was AutoNational @ £28.50....... No complaints; I see myself arranging cover for a very small business at minimal cost - many thanks.

I spoke to my local garage about this(he does call outs for auto aid, green flag and others), it seems that they charge a call out fee, normally £45, plus £10 per mile for recovery when working for auto aid.
So if you are 300 miles from home you will be looking at a bill for some £600 plus(they charge you for their travel both ways!).
This is a lot of money to be paying out up front, if you've got that much available!
I went with green flag.0 -
I too went with Green Flag.
Got a quote for Roadside Assistance and Home call for
£48.
Thought this was a bargain.0 -

Do you not mean £1 per mile ?0 -
After spending days going through policies for car insurance I just happened to find Martin's tip re Roadside recovery - Auto Aid.
Contacted them and the cover for £28 is as good as any that are included on Car Insurance Quotes and much better value.
So Insured my car and have recovery all through links on this web site and saved £90.
Thanks Martin

AUTOAID INFO:
1. Price increase of £1 to £29 from July 1, 2004.
2. 0870 number does not have to be used - call on 01277 235500 (very helpful).
3. Cover also includes caravans and trailers.
4. You can select your own local repairer if you wish or just let Autoaid select repairer.
5. Some repairers are prepared to invoice you if you have no cash/credit card (but this may delay call out).
6. You cannot add Autoaid to your car insurance policy.
7. The emergency callout number is a chargeable call
8. They have no website.
9. Cover includes spouse (for free).
9. As person rather than car insured do not use if you have more than two drivers for your car (excluding spouse).0 -
Does anyone know whether AUTO AID will recover you to home and then a garage later?
I broke down on bank holiday monday.
My garage would have been shut and it's in the middle of nowhere so we would have been stuck without transport as well.
So, we were recover home and then the next day, the car was taken to the garage when it was open.
Do AUTO AID cover this situation?
If not, how do other people cope with this?
My understanding is that recovery companies will not take you home after dropping the car off at a garage.
Any help appreciated.0 -
Hadn't noticed that Auto-Aid do european cover, & needed some, so thought people could find this useful.
Currently have AA UK cover (option 200) until renewal time. AA want about £35 or £65 for different levels of europe cover (single trip). Thought that looked extortionate for 3 days.
Through moneysupermarket I have just spent £65 for First Call UK & Europe, but the biggie is their Ts & Cs 7:
"You can cancel this pollicy at any time. If no claims have been made during the period of cover then a pro rata refund will be made" [my emphasis].
If I read this right, then I should get my single-trip European cover for the order of £1.30 if I cancel after a week !
I'll let you know if it works. (hopefully the refund bit rather than the breakdown bit
)
We should introduce First Call to some motor insurers, maybe it would encourage them to give pro rata cancellation refunds !
