I have just saved £79, by taking Martins advice on car insuance and roadside assistance. I used the https://www.confused.com and had a long list of choices for cheaper car insurance, which I have taken up, also I used the Auto Aid for my roadside assistance, the telephone number for these is 01277 235500, a different company answers but they transfer you to Auto Aid. Whatever I do, I always check Martins site and the chat room prior to spending any money. Thanks Martin...

I have also taken up AutoAid's offer, My only concern was that I know my wife and children will be safe if our car ever breaks down. At £28 fantastic!!!! My mind is now at rest. Thanks Martin.

I have just renewed my insurance and saved £300, but the new policy has no roadside assistance, so I had to hunt around for a good deal. I ended up paying for full roadside assistance, plus home start, plus onward travel to destination, some hire costs etc., the full works but no Europe coverage (don't need it) for £34.80 with reasonable Ts and Cs.
It came from https://www.moneysupermarket.com who are mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but they do also have a comparison service. Whether this always leads to Europ Assistance (the provider in my case) I am not sure but they claim to compare over 80 providers. This is not a pay and claim service either.
    Hope this helps.

We went with Breakdown Direct, who were a lot cheaper than renewing with Direct Line breakdown and offer roughly the same cover - homestart etc but not European.

Had to call them out just after Christmas when the battery warning light came on as we bombed down the M4. Got to the next services and had to wait less than 3/4 of an hour for a very friendly, very local mechanic to come. It was the alternator: he hit it (I think) and twiddled a bit to fix it temporarily. Warned us not to use more electrics than strictly necessary in case 'she' went again, and told us we'd need to get it replaced ASAP.

    I was impressed.

We used to use Britannia Rescue: they always send a questionnaire out afterwards which includes questions about how long it took the mechanic to arrive. One told me that this meant he always responded quickly to callouts via BR whereas if another company called him out he'd finish his tea first ...
