call out times like martin said vary I worked in a local garage who were A>A> agents R>A>C> and Greenflag the two largest used all their own patrols until it got busy or went over time then then past the job to the garage ! Greenflag dont have their own patrols so the job goes straight to the garage and usally call out is within 35 mins locally. Most small breakdown clubs do the same ie use local recovery or breakdown garages. However whilst in London the A>A> man was with us in 15 mins to fix my sisters car so as martin said time scales are only general. my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0 -
This comes free with Lloyds TSB Select account which is charged at 5 pounds per month, along with several other perks.
This does NOT cover you for front door breakdown cover - as I found out to my cost.
Had I broken down around the corner, I would have been covered - or if I had lied about my address!
Other perks include Sentinel card protection cover which costs 16 pds per year.
Have since cancelled by Select fee. Downgraded account which took all of 5 mins and 1 signature.0 -
happy i got this deal as i was going to have to pay £78 to green flag for a similar policy or over £100 pounds through aa & rac
silly to pay more!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
This is the first time i've ever done this, hope its not the last.
I have a gold service account with Lloyds TSB. For a charge of £10/ month I get cover with the AA, also cover for credit card loss with sentinel, mobile phone cover and travel insurance cover. The AA and mobile cover are new but i'd been paying £8/ month for the others for years without realising I had them, silly me.
The AA wouldnt be my first choice, I've had poor service in the past, but I'm paying for it anyway. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
At the moment I have my policy with Europe Assitance via quotelinedirect.com. (Got it before I heard of AutoAid etc.)
On Monday I broke down and was towed home.
Today my car was towed to a local garage.
I was very happy with the service.
I have had this 2 stage recovery done before with the RAC i.e. taken to home and then later taken to a garage.
This was in preference to being stuck in a garage in the middle of nowhere late at night.
Can anyone tell me whether AutoAid (or the other pay & claim services) allow you to do this 2 stage approach.
Is it standard these days?
The garage I use is in the middle of nowhere with no public transport.
I am considering changing to one of the pay & claim services, but want to know first whether this would be a problem.
Thanks for your help0 -
Ihave just been quoted £85 from autoaid for covering my motorbike and my partners car.
looking for a cheaper alternative to cover both drivers for the car.

Just bringing this back up again.
Does anyone have any experiences of multiple recoveries with the pay & claim services?
i.e. recovered to home late at night, then car taken to a garage next day.
I would like to save some money but not at the expensive of service.
My policy is currently £60 but I am very pleased with it.0 -
Just called them about the European cover and got answer:
For a typical 2 week trip to central Europe they offer separate insurance for £30-£45. You do not have to me a member for UK breakdown ins. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
For anybody that doesn't want a pay & claim service and wants something pretty comprehensive then I can recommend Europ Assitance via https://www.quotelinedirect.com
It was £59 when I joined and covers rescue, recovery, at home at Europe.
I broke down last week.
They sent me a text message straight away to tell me which company was coming.
They took about 30 mins on a bank holiday.
They recovered me to home dropping off my passengers on the way.
I then called them back on wednesday morning and they recovered the car again to a local garage.
It took a hour this time but it was early in the morning so someone had to get out of bed AND I live on a new road which is currently not on the maps so they had to ring for directions.
Overall I was impressed with the service.
Only downside is that they now use a 0870 number (but I hope not to call them too often).
Obviously more expensive than the pay & claim services, but good value if you need to include Europe.
