like most of you I spend ages trying to work out which is the best value - I look at the small writing where it says x pence per 100g for example then its easier to compare 2 items of different sizes.

I've noticed in Tesco they try to price the same product differently for different size packets to make comparison more difficult for stupid people ie price per pack, price per 100g or price per kg.

I still work it out and try to get the best value I can but it does make the whole thing more difficult when you're in a hurry or with tag-alongs (kids) in tow.

Best tip here is to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check the price per litre or per kg.

This is usually shown in tiny letters on the shelf pricing label. It is surprising how often it can be cheaper to buy 2 full price, smaller, items than one large item. I have proved this in every supermarket.

Check the price by weight or by volume.

NB when buying meat be careful as they can try and charge you for the bone. If you are making stew, buy the meat not the leg.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

    I've been Money Tipped!
I just noticed on the Tesco website that their McLellan white strong cheddar, £1.00 off at £3.22 for 500g they have marked the unit price as being £4.95 a kg. Not correct, it is in fact £6.44 a kg. I always go by the unit price, not the actual price of the item.

Got 10 Birds Eye Veggie fingers in Morrisons the other week for 98p, got home and I had 14 in the pack. Must have had a run of 14 fish fingers beforehand and forgotten to change the amount. :-)

Thats easy. With the 100g price you just move the decimal point 1 place to the right. That gives you the same price as 1kg.

    400g----£2.22

    600g EXTRA VALUE FAMILY PACK----£4.99

I stood of to one side to see how many people were to busy to actually stop and look at the prices ( in 10 min 28 People picked the extra value pack)..:confused::confused::confused:

I'm always seeing things like this, has been happening for years and years.

Can be any supermarket, be it Morrisons, Tesco Adsa etc.

Coffee, tea bags, cooking oil, washing powder (this is renowned for it being cheaper to get the smaller boxes) and many more.

A lot of people are just too lazy to check. I check the p/kg or p/l or p/100ml etc on everything.

This is the great thing about metric, so much easier.

Noticed when I was in Superdrug last week the shampoo I usually buy at 65p a bottle was on offer at 2 For £1.49. They must think we are so stupid.

Maybe not stupid, but they know a lot of people don't bother looking - now whether you class being lazy as being stupid well I'll leave that to you.

Besides a lot of smaller items being cheaper or just a penny or so more than bulk. (Thus if you have to throw some away it is actually more expensive to get the larger sizes), I have noticed that the price per weight printed on sel is often still calculated on the pre-offer price. So you need to work it out yourself if say on BOGOF. A quick rough mental calculation can save pounds. ( or on a 68p calculator)
