After all there's no reason reason why BOGOF can't have the OF pronounced like off.

There are many words where same spelt endings are pronounced differently, many words that are pronounced differently depending on where you live. For example adding extra Rs to words where there shouldn't be an R such as glass. Different pronunciation of words like look, book and cook. To me it's luk, buk and cuk, but to others it's looook booook and cooook.

I have never heard OF pronounced OFF,unless it is in the middle of another word maybe, the words you are using are just that, words, the BOGOF/F issue are letters in place of words and BOGOF does not say BOG OFF

Your second example is correct, and used by some, if you want to pronounce it OFF!

Don't be so silly, utterly ridiculous. It is Buy One Get One Free, BOGOF... how people choose to pronounce it is irrelevant.

Acronymy-initialisms to do not always conform to standard English diction rulings

You want to pronounce it against the English language then go ahead, I will use the correct pronunciation.

Absolutely no reason it cannot be, Buy One Get One For Free, BOGOFF.

I think you know how that is pronounced(which is tuf, different to OFF ), as you will see from almost any dictionary, and the same dictionary's will give you the correct pronunciation for OF, and OFF.

As I said, I was being pedantic, but you can talk when reading your signature, talk about pot/kettle.

I think you're being ridiculous. There is no word in the English language that has more than 2 letters and ends in "of" therefore you are simply taking a single word and using that to construct a rule for the pronunciation of an acronym. All other uses of the letters "of" are pronounced "off"; croft, loft, oft etc. You've driven this thread ov topic for no real reason. Can you leave it now?

My partner was in a pound shop last week where 'Coke' was on offer.

She was standing behind someone who placed a bottle on the counter, The assistant told him they were two for a pound, he told her that he only wanted one!

    Still cost him a POUND!

    What a plonker, Rodney!
I've seen loads of poeple who do that too. They could give the other product away if they wanted, if they really didnt need it. And anyway most things that are on offer like that in poundland have long shelf lives anyway so surely they would use it at some point just maybe not that week.Totally and utterly daft.
And back to the OP there should be something done about how they put on their offers, they stitch people far too much. And another thing that annoys me with morrisons their fridge food usually has such short life on it I get home to find my pack of 8 yoghurts all go off the next day! Cept now I check thorugh them all to find the best dates. (the odd times I do go n there)
