I have had an unrelated eye problem for many years culminating in drastic but successful major surgery last year. In addition I am very shortsighted. Twice I asked my very competent consultant if I could have laser treatment. Her reply was "Yes, but why operate on a perfectly healthy eye?"
She suggested that if I chose to have the surgery that I should opt for it to be done at an NHS Eye Specialist Unit "just in case complications arose." Apparently their charges are very competetive.
I am tempted but having now lost most of the sight in one eye am loath to take a chance with the other.
I have to say that I know someone who was extremely short sighted, so much so that he could not drive. He had both eyes done years ago and now has excellent vision.

AFAIK they won't operate if you only have one healthy eye. They won't take the chance on the healthy eye either.

If you are serious about having Laser Eye Surgery and you live in the
UK you no doubt will be spending hours of time online looking at the
prestine clinic web sites and their glossy brochures trying to make up
your mind who to entrust with your sight.

One of the best 'Independent' web sites around has to be http://www.lasik-eyes.co.uk

If you search on Google (either .com or .co.uk ) under Laser Eye
Treatment you cannot fail to find this web site up in the top 5 ranked
web sites... It is regularly featured on TV and Radio programs... and
gets a mention on MoneySavingExpert.com in this forum...

Having recently checked the stats this site boasts in excess of 1300
    visitors per day and growing!!

Nearly every one of the UK's clinics is featured on this site and
enables patients who have had the procedure to allocate scores against
the clinic of their choice. Once you have made your choice you can
even make an on-line enquiry to the clinic from their featured page.

For those who have reservations about taking the plunge then there is
a well attended forum section where you can discuss your concerns.

Talking to the owner yesterday the web site is currently back with the
developers having an 'Extreme Makeover' and will re-launch itself with
'New Features' at the end of August 2007.

All in all an excellent web site worth looking at......

I got my eyes operated the last time i went for holiday to india. The world's latest technology at next to nothing price (400 GBP actually)..So the flight and 2 weeks expenses where all covered by the equivalent cost in UK.The doctor said lot of people come on health holidays where they get the operation done the day they land and then stay 2 weeks to have post checkup's done!
    Something worth considering.

    HTH!

    Cheers,
