dont do anything before you read this sites information. They are totally independant and give you questions to ask the centre. Visit 2 maybe 3 centres and compare. Consultations are normally free.

I had my eyes lasers nearly 2 years ago - wavefront with Accuvision - no pain, no badages and I went to work the next day. 3 other people I know have been to Accuvision and none had any pain during or after the treatment.I cant recommend them enough. But they are not cheap but cheaper than Ultralase.
Do not opt for the cheapest available - most do a payment plan, you need 24 hours 7 day a week aftercare - many don't offer this, just incase you need advice further treatment. These are your eyes and not replaceable. Check how often you can go back and have eyes rechecked I went the day after, 2 weeks after, 1 month after, 6 months after, and a year after treatment. If I want to for piece of mind I caould ring up and get them checked again. They also guarentee the work done so if your sight is getting worse in say 5 years time they will redo the treatment free (not accounting for old age, as eyesight worsens with age - this is the treatment we are talking about i.e things start to go blurry.Another friend had theirs done with Ultralase and after a year they had to have 1 eye redone and pay £350 for it )
so what Im trying to say is - this is serious treatment you need to visit clinics, shop around and think about aftercare etc - not just the price on the day. hopefully you wont need any emergency treatment but like taking out insurance - WHAT IF ???????? anything does wrong. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -
I had one eye done by Optimax 10 years or so ago, result was great but like has been mentioned it doesn't last forever (the aging process!) also the treated eye always felt slightly different when rubbing it etc (slightly gritty feeling but not particularly uncomfortable)
Was I glad I had it done? At the time, yes.
Would I do it again? No.
Would I recommend it? Depends if you really, honestly can't put up with wearing glasses.0 -

I have posted in the past about the dangers of eye surgery, and I would recommend people check out the website http://www.lasermyeye.org/. Warning people of the dangers often seems like trying to hold your ground against a stampede!
I don't want to sound alarmist to paulow, but his symptoms of 'gritty feeling' is how my problems started. I have a condition called Recurrent Corneal Erosion as a result of having PRK laser eye surgery (also about 10 years ago). I would suggest you avoid rubbing your eyes, or getting grit in them, and if it gets worse and you start to have pain (usually on waking, when the eyes are at their dryest) that you seek medical help before it begins to be debilitating. I kept on thinking it would get better, but it only got worse."Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie

I agree don't do anything before you check out http://www.lasik-eyes.co.uk
It not only gives you the full range of clinics that are available in the UK it also has some very good advice on choosing a clinic and also the pit fall of going to clinics that supposedly offer the cheapest prices..
Maybe Martin should do a piece on this web site so that others may benefit from it's advice?
Martin are you out there????

I too used Optical Express for Lasik treatment and paid probably full price, although the service and tests beforehand were very good.
However, I would like to just warn, that although I was told by everybody that it was a painless procedure - it was actually the worst 15 mins of my life and I experienced excruciating pain during the operation and for about 5 hours afterwards. I am not sure if the anaesethic eye drops just did not work, but I felt every bit of the procedure and it was very very sore and painful. Afterwards, I had to travel 3 hours home and I could not open my eyes, the pain was unbearable. I was also very sick for about 4 hours.
After about 6 hours this did all wear off and I was able to open my eyes and within 24 hours, I had better than 20-20 vision. Optical express did not want to know about the pain though and just cast it off as me having a low pain thresh-hold. I disagree as I do not think it should have been as bad an experience as I had, although the results are fantastic. Not sure if I would now recommend it though!!!!I heard the segment on radio 2 on Friday.
I must say that I am surprised that you haven't picked up on the great offers at Optical Express at the minute. I went along for a consultation a few weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that the appointment was free and that they don't pressure you to buy because I found some of the other clinics charge you for the assessment and some asked me to sign up there and then.
As it turns out I went ahead with the Surgery (best thing I have ever done). The biggest and best surprise was the price though. ₤395 PER EYE. I couldn't believe it. I even got it on interest free credit over 10 months. I paid a ₤200 deposit and now I pay ₤59 per month. I know people that pay about that for contact lenses in a month. You would think that for that price there would be a downside but all of the staff were really proffesional and the clinic was by far the cleanest and most modern of all the clinics that I went to.
It wasn't a special offer. I went in, had the tests and then they told me the price. It was fantastic.
If you are thinking about laser eye surgery you need to check them out. You can view their website at opticalexpress.com or thelaserclinic.com.0 -

Had a search on ebay but can't find any half price laser eye surgery.
Can someone please tell me where I should be looking? Or tell me the name of the seller so I can find it more easily?
Thanks!0 -
