umm...daisy I'm not sure if you understood that the idea of the thread was not to spend money...now I wouldnt EVER say that you should let kids down cos you shouldnt but the whole idea was that pepys would use food they had in the house rather than buying anything...Would it be worth you doing a shop maybe & joinig us later in the week so you dont feel you failed before you started IYKWIM?
Ok count me out then sorry to have not understood the rules, although from other posts I can see I am not the only person who has bought food?!DFW no.630!

Evening all, Me and In Search Of Me have had a little thinking and i put across to her that next week we should carry on this thread BUT Maybe set ourselfs a certain target of how much we will spend..and carry it on the following week and so on.. so this week we are all aiming to spend a big fat ZERO..next week my aim might be dont spend over £20..then next week bring it up a knotch to £30.
Anyways just a idea we both had. Let us know what you all think
Hi sounds like a good challenge and a realistic one for us all to acheive, where we can adjust budgets to fit in with our lifestyles and needs.
It was not until today when i started NSD i realised how i am spending money on the strangest things without any thought whatsoever. This is obviously how I overspent on my GC last month and did not understand why :rotfl:
So learning what I need to live on on a weekly basis will be intresting.
Any money saved will be a bonus towards paying off my debts quicker as well:TMortgage Owed: Sept 14 - £107398.200 -
Well, I haven't had any food spends , am limiting my 'no spends' to food shopping, main reason for this is that I can't get into a food shop and not come out with more stuff than the item I went in for. I'm a good cook, I should be able to manage in a creative way, even if I don't have spuds in the cupboard.
DD had the quorn bol that I got out for her yesterday and she didn't have. She had the spaghetti left over from Sunday lunchtime.
DS & DH had large portion of meatballs from sunday lunchtime stretched with some of the tomato sauce I made yesterday, I crumbled the meatballs a bit more. used the end of a bag of tagliatelle from the cupboard which wasn't enough for the whole family. I'm going to stick to spaghetti plus one sort of pasta shapes I think, I'm sure it will be more MS.
Simnel cake last bits have been been troughed so tin can be washed. I do like it when things start to look tidy.
I need to make a -plan for the rest of the week, must remember to do an egg count so that I can work out my baking without doing any shopping.
DH is changing job on Friday. He's not changing desk, site or anything, simplly going from being a contractor to being 'staff'. His colleagues were asking if he was bringing in cake on Friday seeing as he's 'leaving'. Might bake something, as it'll cost him £20 at Mr M for doughnuts or equivalent
I had some Leek and Potato soup that friend brought for Saturday lunch and will freeze the rest now for another day."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Well, we got in our veggies and fruit today, so tomorrow onwards will be no-spend on food for the rest of the week, in fact into next week now that we have stocked up on frozen veggies. I had a snacky plate with a bit of bread, cherry tomatoes, a small slice of cheese and a few crisps and was just right for a light supper.
I tend to do my baking on the weekend as a treat, so depending on the amount of eggs left, it may be a fruit crumble. Otherwise, the week looks like spuds, salads and whatever we find in the freezer (there is some fish lurking which will get used up this week, as well as some steak).Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
Well I am fed up of food prices going up daily so I'm definitely in on this one apart from fresh milk I don't intend to buy anything at all this week as I have more than enough in my cupboards .I may even eat my emergency tins of pichards if things get desperate:D I think it would do us all good if we did a lot less shopping, and a bit more creative cooking. I probably have enough to keep me going for at least a week if not two. Shopping becomes almost a habit at times .How many times have you walked around a supermarket automatically putting things into you trolley. My DD's ma-in-law and I have decided not to buy anything unless REALLY needed.freash milk is an essential for me as I have to have a lot of protien because of my immunity being up the wall at the moment but everything else can go by the board.Well done for starting this thread I hope we can all see an improvement in our purses if not our waistlines :T
Mr T can go whistle Dixie this week, he's not getting his hands on my cash:rotfl:
P.S. For all of you that are quitting the demon tobacco well done, I quit 13 years ago and have never regretted it Why put even more money into the Governments pocket0 -
In haste as just popped in to get an addy from my address book but couldnt resist a peek!
Sorry if my commets upset you daisy? I wasnt having a go - just pointing out that the idea was to have a free day on Monday (to stock up!) & then try & spent nowt until next Monday night when I go to book group! (cos wine is on the menu!!) You can join us but maybe do a shop first? People will of course spend but the idea is to try not to & it really makes you realise how strong the urge to shop for ANYTHING is!! Plus you need to be organised! I've justrealised that I may need "girlie" things & pain killers but will try to last if I can and no, before anyone asks, I'm not resorting to rags!! I am well aware people dd before but I aint going there! eyew!!
Off to work so have a good day! Hugs all!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -

 i nearly forgot today. Went out to get a newspaper, but remembered just in time.
Its so easy done as you get used to popping out and getting stuff.
I've now written several large stick it notes and placed them on the front door, the kitchen door and one in my purse.:D
Well done everyone and keep up the good work.
PS really agree with Jackieo, its nice not to be putting yet more profits to various stores while they shove their prices higher and higher- sorry am off on a rant.:oThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
Well, I'm letting the side down really badly
Yesterday it was a train ticket for a wedding I'm attending in June. Today I had to pop out to the shops at lunchtime to get emergency girlie supplies and a pair of tights (managed to ladder the pair I put on this morning and am going out this evening). And I've had to take my shoes to the cobblers as they've finally become unwearable, so that's another £17 down the drain. Ugh.
Tonight I shall be spending even more money. When I signed up for the challenge I'd forgotten that I was attending a Club evening tonight, so that's a couple of pounds for drinks. Oh, and because it doesn't start until 8pm I'll need to get something to eat beforehand - I can't go home because it would take me longer to go home and come back into town than the time in between finishing work and the evening starting. I hate being stuck in London and reliant on public transport all the time. If I'd known it was going to be so lovely I'd have brought a picnic and sat in the park but I'm still in winter mode so my brain thinks 'must find warm shelter whilst eating'
But the funny thing is that this challenge has really helped me cut out my impulsive spending. I didn't buy any random chocolates/magazines/makeup when I went to Boots today, I haven't spent any money on Amazon, have managed to avoid Ebay and have even remembered to take a packed lunch to work for two days in a row. So although I've not achieved a proper 'no spend week' I feel I'm doing really well. And, who knows, I might even manage not to spend a single penny tomorrow!0
