ahhh! Not sure it is off topic really as one of the reasons I wanted to do this was help me crack the smoking & the discussion was on that! Regardless I am more than happy for people to go slightly off topic anyway so chat away if you want to & if you dont want to, well, then dont!!! Lets face it we do it all the time on here anyway - ie the gb thread often becomes the "anyone got a recipe for..." thread etc! My feeling is that this is about community, support & encouragement & if it goes a bit off track thats fine..Not sure what else to say reallyNerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! im with you all the way!! with the no shopping and the giving up smoking. i shop online monthly so thats already taken care of, although at one point i used to go shopping at least 3 times a week a few years back...why?
i`m so glad i weaned myself off of that, i think it must have been through boredom more than anything, nowadays i manage to keep my grocery bills right down.
i am now on my 16th day of not smokingim so proud of myself after having smoked 20 a day for 20 years
both oh and i decided to give up so its saving us a fortune. i am reading the alan carr book, it certainly makes you think about your reasons for continuing to smoke, it asks why do you try and keep yourself safe like looking left and right before crossing the road but then fill your body with toxic fumes whats the point of trying to stay safe, would you go and sit behind a car exhaust pipe and breath in?? no you wouldn`t because it might kill you but you`d happily smoke a cigarette. its deffo worth a read it has made my reasons for not putting the dreaded stick in my mouth much clearer.

Count me in too. I'm expecting my veg box tomorrow and have everything else I need so might even make it into next week before I need to do any shopping.
As for quitting smoking. I gave up in May 1979 (after several unsuccessful attempts). I found I needed a powerful incentive and Maggie Thatcher was it. (For the very young amongst you, she'd just been elected). I was determined not to give that besom any of my money!! I also bought some kind of nicotine pill from Holland & Barrett which helped to take away the cravings and I also had a short piece of pencil which had just the right amount of draw on it to replicate a ciggie. I must have looked a real idiot puffing on my pencil but it did the trick and nearly 30 years on, I've never touched another. Good luck to all you quitters!0 -
Ok ISOM, count me in too!
Only I have to make 2 bus journeys this week, can I have an exemption for those?

Hi
Can I join you on a no spend week. Actually mine is more of a What You Haven't Got You Can't Spend week. We've just come back off hols to more bills than expected and I had to do an Iceland shop but apart from that will have to manage with whats in the cupboards. (I will need to buy milk and cat food - no point stocking up on cat food cos my he is old and fussy and if you buy a lot you can guarantee he will go off it) Oh and bus fares but apart from that its a no spend week all the way.
Good luck
Cuddles

oo lovely! I'm all encouraged that so may want to join me! Have been to aldi (& then back because I forgot washing up liquid lol!) and got the last few bits and a couple that would be a good idea (ie had no fruit juice & as I dont like eating fruit that much it seemed a good idea!!) so am all done.
Of course you are allowed bus fares weezle & anyone else who has totravel etc! I'm getting petrol after all! When I orginally posted this I thought no spends for GC but then I need absolutely nowt so may as well go the whole hog! I have plans to meet a friend for coffee in the week but other than that should need to spend nowt & will also suggest that she comes here & I feed her instead of going out for cofee IYKWIM - while some may argue that thats cheating already I couldnt in good faith meet her for coffee & ask her to pay for mine - would DIE of embarassment so will ask her here for food instead! Possibly counter productve as means I need to cook, effectively pay for 2 meals (not that I mind that in the slightest I haste to add - the day I get tight or mean is the day I've given family & friends permission to give me a good slapping!) instead of paying for a coffee lol!
So how are pepys feeling? I have to admit that I actually feel a bit nervous! I readily admit that where shopping is concerned I am somewhat addicted! Now compared to what I was like before I am a reformed character but still ack that I could spend less than I do! Please someone tell me I'm not alone in feeling a bit panicky!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi you are not alone!
Am a bit worried about this and got so twitchy at work I popped out and did an emergency shop of D coke to stave off the panic  :rotfl:.
Have been sat thinking and my impulse buying in grocery shopping is out of control so am looking forward to tomorow with trepidation and excitement.
Oh need to add i am going to pick my new bicycle up on Wednesday (already paid for) but will be buying a new lock for it as dont want it pinched yet. ( last bike was pinched from my shed complete with lock safely attached to handle bars . This time it will be firmly attached to wall
Oh good luck with the no smoking :TMortgage Owed: Sept 14 - £107398.200
