Great better late than never!! Re the bread why not try homemade bread - dont need a BM!! I made potato bread day before yesterday, that went & I'm now trying a brown version!! It makes 2 loaves but is so scrummy they dont last long! Its a delicious light texture and great with sweet or savory fillings - heres the recipe! Re the BM I have one and am seriously thinking of getting rid of it because I love making bread from scratch and theres something immensely satisfying about kneading bread. It reminds me of my much loved andvery much missed granny so I chat to her as I knead away! Plus I think the extra physical effort that goes into making the bread makes it even more special when you eat it....a slightly mad concept perhaps but meaningful for me!Potato bread – readers digest recipe
400g (14oz) floury potato - scrubbed
700g (1ib 9oz) strong white bread flour
1 tsp salt
1 sachet easy blend yeast – approx 7g
1 tblsp molasses
Put potatoes in a pan and simmer for 15 minutes until soft – leave skins on and then when cooked remove from water (keep water) and cool and then scrape the skin off (keeping skins on while cooking preserves the nutrients that lie just beneath the skin). Mash well.
In mixing bowl sieve 1ib 5 oz flour, salt & yeast (I used real yeast from the baker – a lump a bit smaller than a tablespoon!) and mix together the add potato and mix in.
In a jug mix 10 fl oz of potato water & molasses which should still be warm. Slowly add to the mix until a soft but not sticky dough consistency is reached.
The knead with some of the remaining flour for 5-10 mins until it goes smooth & elastic (don’t worry if any lumps of potato!). Put in an oiled bowl and cover with a tea towel for 40 mins.
Then knead again for 3 mins and divide mix into two and put into two well greased bread pans. Cover again & let it rise for 20 mins. After 15 mins turn the oven on to 180 c/350F or GM 4 and then put the bread in & cook for 40-45 mins until well risen and brown.
Turn onto wire rack to cool. Can be kept for up to a week.
Each slice (assuming 14 slices per loaf) is 195 kcal/6g protein/1g fat (of which 0% is saturated!) 43g carbs (of which sugars 1g) and 2g fibre.
Note: This is a lovely moist bread that is surprisingly light – less dense than any other HM bread I’ve made yet! Delicious with marmite & honey! (but possibly not on the same slice!!)Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
oo crossed posts mumzy of 2!! Re the smoking I nearly caved at about 9.30 last night as was desperate but managed to persuade myself that if I did cave I'd be annoyed with myself (as I have been so many times before!) plus I really, really resent paying that much money for something that makes my lungs feel rubbish, house stink & skin dry up! Why not try again?!! Go on...you know you want to!! I have nicttenine lozenges which help but cal also get the wine= fag mentality which was another reason for cutting down on alch!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Why for instance do I have 8 things of chopped toms!! I have lots of dried goods and some very random things (pudding rice anyone?!!) so will be interesting creating actually edible recipes! Didnt get to the freezer but certainly have enough for a week! Petrol obviously doesent count as I cant get to work without it! I do need cat food & washing up liquid and will get that today at lidl - need to also look at some seeds as planting time is upon us! Very exciting although it means some digging this pm first!!
Thanks for the reminder.... a roast is going in later and I haven't made rice pud for aaaaagggggeees. SO MS as well!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

The last time i gave up i saved a few days worth of fag butts and ash in a sealed jar, whenever i fancied a fag i sniffed the jar
it seemed to kill the craving:D (add a drop of water for a really yucky effect)

That sounds truly gross, but I don't think I can really understand as I've never been a smoker at all. I think you have to have been to understand how it is. I don't think you can understand the trying to lose weight problem either unless you have had that problem either. I think this is another thread, seem to be OT here. Sorry."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
