Hi all,
I'm new to all this but so glad there are so many people out there in this situation. I'm writing on behalf of my mum. She also received a slip in january, in dorset, and signed onto a gym as you all did. She emailed to cancel the contract 19 days after signing and yes she got the bog standard response you all have received. She also called Fitlife who said they claim no liability over it, and the amc also said they have no influence over cancelling, so who is actually in control?!
after reading all of this i told her to cancel her standing order as you have all said to do and cancel our local trading standards. She has done that today, but it seems trading standards werent that helpful and told her she was wrong to cancel her SO and that she could now be taken to court. so of course she is panicking.
Can people just give me some advice as to what there TS have told them to do, and so i can reassure her she won't go to court? Have people actually been called by a debt company? and how have you fought this off?
Any advice would really help at this time.
Thanks
Hi emily2809
its strange you say that trading standards said your mother was in the wrong to stop her Standing order, all of us on here stopped our standing order without any problems, may be a good idea to get your mum to contact them again and talk to someone else, the person she talked to could be new and not know what they were talking about0 -
Have received a letter from Fitness Finance saying they are handing my account over to debt collectors. Not too worried as i know from this forum they are just full of it. just need to confirm that no-one has had debt collectors at their door? Have stopped trying to communicate with these idiots months ago, just keep all letters for future reference.0

Hi Kim
i have definitely not had any debt collectors to my door, ive had a letter saying they were taking me to court but that was bull sh**
i think a few people on here have had the same letter but nothing ever happens, dont worry to much over it0 -
I would do absolutely nothing!
However for your own piece of mind you could see Trading Standards (search out your local office & write to them). My TS weren't much help tbh, but they did point out that that these companies were in the wrong. However all the info on this thread is excellent & very mind-settling!
The good thing about this forum is that each & every single person posted is in the same boat. You can read the very first post, or ther very last - they're all the same! (Just different generations of the forum scammed!)
I guess because I moved house after I joined I feel a little more at ease with no hassles - but then looking at the lack of evidence on this thread to suggest that these a-holes actually do make a door visit or a court hearing is absolutely zilch, so therefore, even more reassuring.
I think one of the mind-troubling things is that they persistantly badger you into paying & u may ask urself why????? It is because sooner or later they get someone so worked up & worried that they DO actually pay up - & then it's all good for these b'stards eh? I bet the difference to what they pay to gyms & what they ask of us is huge! I also rekon there is no 'tie' with the other companies either cos they're all from the same Zoo!
Erase them from your databanks!
Good luck!0 -
Hey Sharono
dont worry about debt collectors or court summons, ive had both and neither one has come into effect
i contacted my local CAB and they put me in contact with Consumer direct, they then passed me on to TS who are no looking in to my case
just make sure you keep all your paperwork etc...
also im lead to believe that those postal vouchers were illegal so i would defo look into that as well
Dont worry and Dont back down
you will be Victorious
We all will0 -
Hi all, lots of people come on here who have just found this forum and they all ask for help. Honestly, all the answers are here - I know it has now grown to 16 pages and there is a lot to read, but we are all ignoring the threats, I promise you. Nothing has ever happened to anyone regarding court cases, etc, as far as I can see. I have been told repeatedly by Trading Standards that I have nothing to worry about, SO I DON'T ..... and neither should you. We will all stick together. Good Luck all. x
PS It is worth the time to read it all to put your mind at rest.0 -
Hi all would like to join in this forum as I am now a victim of the Fitlife/amc/Lyle hill trick I joined up last september all was ok for a while I was aware of the maintenance despite it being advertised as free membership after all nothing is free these days and £16.53 a months didnt seem too bad the problem started when I started getting some pain in my side and an MRI scan revealed a displaced disk in the left side of my spine and I was advised by my GP to suspend my gym activity so in line with the notes on the back of the "agreement" I asked for a suspension to AMC and sent in the required doctors letter to them cancelled the standing order meaning to resume if and when I was signed off by my GP but recieved a letter saying that the payments must stay in place and time would be added on at the end of the 2 year payment period so I looked at the internet for advice and found this forum and in retrospect have to admit that I do fall into the catagory of all the other people on here I was not advised that it was a non cancellable two year credit agreement and as far as I was concerned I was signing a standing order arrangment form I have to admit that when I went to the gym it was only to find out more information so didnt take my reading glasses so it wasnt till I got home that I read about the so called agreement which as far as I can tell was with a company called fitlife ltd and the latest letter from Lyle Hill says its with Fitness Finance . I have had a course of treatment from from a NH recomended Osteopath but it looks like I may need another MRI scan so it could be a long job and I may not be able to resume training at the gym so will now be going for a cancellation of membership0

Im yet another person who has been swindled by this scam!!!! was told we was getting a free membership then when we got there we had to sign a credit aggrement!!! my fault for signing it but still this company want shutting down!!! they target people who are claiming benefits or are on a low income and cheat them!!! if you try to contact them you cant except by writing and this takes months to get a reply!!! i have jus finished paying them in full thank god but now i am tryin to get them to move my gym and being told i cant!!! they are an absolute joke! dont kno wat to do now as im paid up untill 2010 but cant get to the gym as its to far away! hate them feel like goin burning the gym down for gettin me involved!!! :mad:0

i dont think most of the gym owners really think of it being the scam it is, rather stupidly i suppose. you see, amc offers to do all the marketing a sales of memberships for free in exchange for a monthly percentage of each contract. they look to get as many members as possible as members are simply seen as being worth x amount of money (hence the non cancelable agreements in order to give a garunteed profit). thus amc is basically just a get rich quick and move on kinda scheme, welll scam i should say. i have the address of their head office if you want it? its basically just a run down !!!! building, i guess they must have to change their location quite often0

Has anyone cosidered the possibility of taking these companies to court they seem to be in breach of every credit regulation invented ?0
