It is rural that's for sure, but there would be little need to go to another city, say Aberdeen, very often as it has all you would need. A few years ago before the airport got "big" (I remember when the baggage just came out of a little hatch and you had to just grab it and there were no shops in the airport) there may have been more need to go elsewhere but now there really isn't.
And if you miss London that much then you can get an Easyjet flight for about £30, which isn't much more than my parents pay to get the 35 min train into Euston from just outside the M25!
It may not be for everyone but it isn't like you are moving away from all civilisation!0 -
most english think it is,quality of lifes far better up here:rolleyes:
I'm English, in fact I was brought up on the outskirts of London, and now live in Birmingham. I would love to live up there (or a bit further out, somewhere like Elgin)! But then again I have been there and so am not just guessing what it is like!
Our jobs and friends are down here now though!0 -

and? you got much crime and countryside you cant compare the 2
That's not really relevant to what I was saying, that it's hard to describe it as a big place, major city, etc....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

yep its Inshes church they are closing, they dont even have the funds to build the trunk road yet, could be a long way off... (I live across from church just now) they are holding a lot of meetings about it, so we'll see wat happens!0 -
The finishing of the SDR aint coming anytime soonDoesn't have to be big to be a city, just has to have a cathedral OR be designated as a city by some higher power. I would agree, it's not a "major city" when compared with some English cities. But on the other hand, it's the biggest centre of population oop-north!
Aye that's it, people come to Inverness for shopping from as far away as the western isles etc, which could be up to 5hrs travel in each direction
I've only ever lived in the highlands so can't really comment on how it compares with other parts of the country. Usually good in the summer (apart from the midges) but winter can be pretty cr*p

Hey you only live once!!!
Look at it this way, you are only in the country 6 months of the year. You quite fancy living in Inverness. You appear to have noties keeping you where you are.
Inverness is nice. The A9 can be a bit hairy at times but supposed to be being upgraded, it is still a dangerous road tho.
If you want to do it go for it.
