its actually lighter the further north you get!!!!!!!!!!!! i once stayed in the orkney islands as a kid,and in the summer, close to mid summers day i was playing football in daylight at midnight:eek:

that's because it was in the summer. The reverse would have been true in the winter, it would have been near as dammit dark at midday!

Go for it! I'm moving from Croydon to the north coast of Scotland (25 miles west of Thurso) in 4 weeks' time. Flights in and out of Inverness are pretty good these days, so as long as you don't mind the extra travelling time, go for it - if you pay the bit extra to fly with BA and they take you onwards to Africa, they'll put your luggage straight through for you.

    Hi

i've found a new build house at an excellent price.

I'm sure you've done your research, but i think sometimes it is very easy to get exciited at prices in different areas. I remember after visiting Northumberland, how i felt the prices were very reasonable, when in actual fact they just reflected the local market, which was lower than where we lived, but still a very inflated price. Considering all places have risen dramatically, be aware it may still be at an overvalued in price.

Thanks for your replies guys/gals. Well travel wouldn't really be a problem, as Inverness airport is only 5-10 miles away from Smithton (where the property is located). As for getting to/from London i normally fly into/from LHR from/into Tripoli, that would just mean spending a night in an airport hotel and flying out to INV the next day on FlyBe from LGW...my company would pay for all transit costs so it wouldn't cost me anything just means getting home 1 day later or leaving home 1 day earlier to get to work.

Probably the main selling point for me is that since i am an outdoors kind of person, the Highlands offers a lot to do in that respect. Having spent 4 weeks in the Sahara sand dunes, it would make a refreshing change coming home and not seeing sand! Yes due to its latitude, Inverness does get dark early in Winter but then you get longer daylight hours in Summer so i can live with that.

Probably a stupid question, but around Inverness do you ever get traffic jams as bad as the car park around London (M25)?

    Thanks

I say go for it! I'm a Black Isle girl myself and you just can't beat it for scenery and peace and quiet (and Rosemarkie beach!) You have to check out the Clootie Well - by far the weirdest place I've ever been! http://www.blackisle.org/clootiewell.htm. As for traffic - the worst "jams" come when caley thistle are playing at home and even then it only adds about 15mins to your journey.

    Good luck!

Wow thank you for satisfying my nosiness. Are you the one herding the camels btw?

Apologies for changing the topic - i know nothing about Inverness. Although Yorkshire is good.

ps How do you cope with looking at so much sand day in day out?
