I had reservations myself about the texting with the Viewty (just got one this week) as I specifically got it with a texter package on 3. I wasn't sure about the idea of a touchscreen for texting but I have to say although I started slow I'd say I'm nearly as fast texting on it now as my old phone (Sony T610). I like the haptic (vibration) feature on it so the keys feel a bit more tangible than justsimply touching a screen. I'm very happy with it although I know people who'd hate to text in that way (but they're a bit narrow minded if you ask me).
I don't have a great prob with it tbh. Like I say, I do find the pause if you need 2 letters from the same key a tad slow, but that's all.

I know exactly what you mean, but it's probably something i'll get used to (pity there doesn't seem to be an option to alter the delay time). I guess it's the best compromise for having a touchscreen interface. You could always try the hand recognition instead. ;)

Hi Kimberley, I worked in the mobile retail industry for about 3 years now so i'm pretty sure i could find you a phone. As for a phone which has good battery life, could i possibly recommend the Nokia 6500 Classic?

According to these it has a poor battery life

Thank you for all your suggestions, i'm going to see if i can get the Viewty :D

Good choice Kimberley. Have a look at the O2 retentions thread for info on how I managed to get mine. If you need any more info just ask - But make sure you get the deal YOU want and don't just jumjp at the first one they offer you.

They need you more than you need them as there are many companies out there.

    Good luck!

    Hi john

On 02 website they have the online 25 tariff, free Viewty and free texts/calls a month for £25 which is not bad as i already pay between £19 and £23 anyway, but i'll try and get it even lower when i phone them.

I can't find your posts in the 02 retention thread John.

    Hi Kimberley,

This post was on page 14 of the thread:
What a cracking deal I've just got!

My contract ended 3 weeks ago (£15pm) and I moved onto a Simplicity (£10pm) contract. I decided to call O2 to see what they could do.

I called on 3 occasions and got 3 different offers:

    1) £20pm for loads of minutes and texts (sorry the offer didn't interest me so I didn't note how many!) + £180 credited to the account. (18 month contract)

    2) 200mins + 400txts on N95 (free handset) for £20pm (18 month contract). NB - During this call I had decided on the LG Viewty and tried to get a deal for this - Got offered 200mins + 400texts for £25pm with free handset (18 month contract).

    3) 200mins + 400texts on Sony Ericsson W910i (free handset) for £15pm (18 month deal). NB - Tried to negotiate on LG Viewty and they wouldn't budge on original offer.

Therefore I called Vodaphone (didn't actually do the LG Viewty!), T-Mobile (couldn't get free handset below £30pm) and Orange (offered 350mins + 250texts for £25pm with phone costing (£29.99).

    I then called O2 for 4th time!

    4) I immediately asked the CS representative for my PAC code. I got put through to retentions (incidentally I spoke to retentions on each call). The lad asked why I wanted the PAC code. I said that I had only been offered the basic deal for new customers on the Viewty and told him what Orange had offered - and jazzed up Orange's offer ever so slightly ;). He came back and said " I'm reading the notes from the previous agents and I don't see any reason why I can't offer you the Simplicity 200mins + 400texts (18 month contract) for the Viewty with free handset for £15pm!!"

Absolute bargain on a cracking phone. I can now sell my Sony Ericsson K800i on ebay and make a few bob to put towards my 18 month deal.

I guess the lessons to get a deal that suits you arre:

    1) Know what you want - Sounds obvious but it's important.
    2) Know your stuff - i.e. source other deals and mention them to retentions. Also, be prepared to exaggerate them a little!
    3) Try a few phone calls as you may get Mr or Mrs non-personality on your original call!!
    4) Finally (and this part may be hard for some people) - Be prepared to move to a different provider. I didn't want to pay more than £15pm and wouldn't ask for my PAC code and then stay with O2! I was prepared to move to an Orange £15pm tariff but didn't really want to. I was told by a mate in a T-Mobile shop that I'd never get a free LG Viewty for under £25pm - So much for the experts!

You may wish to browse the thread for further hints and tips, but mine worked for me! Just remember that they need you more than you need them, but they won't offer you the best deal straight away. Also, if they don't know what your after, they will just offer you deals on the handsets that they wish to get rid of (i.e. older stock). Tell them you want the viewty and ask them what they can do - Then take it from there.

Mine's the LG Viewty Silver and I have the Online 25 tariff for which I pay £15pm.

Good Luck - If you need anymore advice, just ask!

Thanks John, just phoned them and they offered me the online 25 tariff with 18 months contract, free viewty with 200 mins/400 texts. I went in their shop earlier whilst out shopping and had a trial demonstration of the Viewty and it seemed a nice phone, i wasn't put off for the slow texting, i'm not one who likes it fast anyway, the texting i mean :D

Anyway what shall i do next in my second call and how long shall i leave it to phone again? I would really like to stick with my online 50 tariff 140 mins/500 texts (although i don't use all the texts up) for £20 a month but the lady refused to gimme it ;)

    Ooooeeerrrr watch the blood pressure!!

They offered me the same deal. I called up and said that as a 'loyal' customer, I felt that I deserved a better deal than Joe Bloggs coming in off the street. It did take another call after this for me to get the result I wanted.

It depends what your happy with (from O2 I mean - lol)...Personally I think that the deal itself isn't too bad. However as a loyalty reward, I would like to think that they would give you £5-£10 off your monthly bill.

Remember that they are not obliged to. So don't be pushy or abbrasive. Be nice and polite, tell them you really want to stay due to great customer service etc etc, and see what they offer you. I would call them back a couple of days or so after your first call.

    P.S.

Hope you didn't spend a fortune while you were shopping!

Another is the Nokia 6300 (2mp camera, Expandable memory (memory card slot), radio, etc.).s.

The camera on the Nokia 6300 is really poor. Its pictures come out worse than a webcam yet it says its 2mp and I did put it on full quality. I have since got a Nokia 6120 classic and the camera on this says its 2mp yet its loads better even without using the flash.

    P.P.S.

Ask for the LG Viewty Silver - It's far smarter looking than the black one......Again I'm biased lol. ;)
