New phone, which one?

Kimberley

I'm due an upgrade and would like some ideas on a good mobile phone. I don't want it to be a walkman type or one that teenagers use, I want a lady friendly one that has a very good battery life, the one i've had needs charging nearly every day and I don't want that again.

So which are the new good ones on the market?

Hmm, well, what features do you actually want? Camera? Decent camera? Play music (this doesn't mean it has to be a walkman type btw)? Any particular style you prefer (flip, slide etc)? 3G? Sorry if any of that means nothing to you. I would suggest that, for something with good battery life you don't go for a nokia Nseries, but without a little more narrowing down its difficult to suggest specific models. I'm afraid you'll have difficulty finding a phone that teenagers do not use as they are generally speaking on the forefront of mobile phone technology (myself fitting into that category, so if I'm not really suited to giving you advice do tell me! No hard feelings.) But I think I know what you're getting at by that, so I'll bear it in mind.
You say you are due an upgrade, does this mean you're on contract?

Ok. Well as you're on contract, do you know about customer retentions? Basically you threaten to leave when you call up your network to upgrade (DON'T tell them you just want to upgrade), then with a bit of luck they knock their prices down to try and make you stay. Check the retentions thread for your network on this site. This will give you an idea of whats on offer right now. As for your new phone, may I ask how much you're paying on your contract atm? It will just give me an idea of how pricey a phone they're likely to let you have, although from what you've said you won't need a very expensive. Just a few preliminary ideas - Sony Ericsson k810i, k770i or even maybe a k850i. These all have good 'cyber-shot' branded cameras in them (which basically means they're good!). I'm not too sure about battery life though, as its not very important to me (I have to charge my current phone every day and its only a few months old!), but I have a friend who has the k770i, I'll ask him what its like.
So basically you're best bet is to have a look at the retentions thread and give your network a call! Hope that helps!

Ok then, in that case it probably is pushing it to get a k850i, but that probably does loads of things you'll never use anyway. The retentions department staff will have some knowledge of battery life etc, so if you tell them your requirements they may be of some help, but I wouldn't trust all they say as they have certain models they want to get rid off. Can anyone else give some advice on battery life? If you want to give your phone company a call, after looking at the retentions thread, and see if they come up with any models I'd be happy to have a look at them for you its just difficult to suggest one with such broad requirements.

I recently got the LG Viewty and am over the moon with it. It's not the fastest texting phone in the world but is modern, slick looking, with massive screen and 5 megapixel dig cam.

I also purchased a plastic protective case from ebay to keep it in tip-top shape for when I come to upgrade again. I got this for under £2 and it isn't bulky at all.

Mmm I do have to agree the viewty is a very nice piece of technology, what the iphone should be like IMO. But I think it may be a bit ott and expensive for the OP. But then again maybe not, just my thoughts on it. Also, I don't imagine the battery's that fantastic with it running that vast screen is it?

I got my Viewty 3 weeks ago. I had a massive battle to get it for the price I got it for, but I did in the end!

My O2 contract ended and after a lot of negotiation, I got the LG Viewty with 200mins + 400txts for £15pm!

I charge mine every night so I can't comment on the battery life, although you would imagine it wouldn't be a market leader.

Just looked and a review says the battery isn't great. The pics don't do it justice and you won't find a better looking mobile anywhere.

Kimberley here's some reviews for you:

I'm biased, but I can't recommend the phone enough! I posted in the O2 retentions thread. You can look there for info on how I negotiated if you wish.

    Good luck!

    LOl,

I seriously can't recommend it enough as I've stated. It has a fantastic large screen, ace camera and no buttons (the phone vibrates when you touch the numbers on the screen), the icons on screen are well laid out.

The only way I can fault it at the mo is that it isn't the quickest texting phone in the world. But it is good and the funkiest looking phone your likely to find. I think the new IPhone is due out soon which will be better than the previous attempt, but you won't get that for free on a contract.

I had to battle to get my LG Viewty for free with the minutes and txts I got, but only because I refused to pay over £15pm as I have no mates to txt!!! LOL
