you need to read the ingredients for the tesco value cheap range of foods because they contain a lot of rubbish so its worth paying a bit more and getting healthier ingredients.

i was at asda in radcliffe in north manchester few days ago and they had a lot of things that were cheaper than tesco and sainsbuys prices. Capri sun drinks were 3 packs of 10 for £5.00, j2o were a lot cheaper as well. Unfortunately there isnt an asda in solihull yet but we are hoping soon though.

You'd be surprised that often time the value goods have far less ingredients and far less additives. Check out the value squash as an example.

Our local asda is killing tescos on their prices.

It is the ethical issues involved, I think. It is for me, anyway.

I would rather buy free range / organic eggs than ones from caged birds, and I think this is others reasoning behind not buying the eggs

haven't been to tesco's in awhile but morrison's now does a value version of free range eggs...perhaps tesco's will follow suit

My children LOVE the value noodles @8p.. can't find any now though as our store has discontinued them :(

morrisons sells them for 10p a packet so if you have one nearby it might be worth a trip there to stock up on a lot of them (and maybe go in time to get all the best reductions, i find that's around 6:15pm at my store) ;)

are brilliant, more hygienic than more expensive ones as you can throw them away after a couple of uses at 3p each, whereas I find if I had paid 50p I have to get loads of use out of it.

    .

actually you can throw these in the washing machine with your towels and they will wash 3-5 times before they are useless, when they get to that stage they get saved up for a nasty job like mopping up something really greasy or something involving the toilet then go into the bin with no guilt about the landfil and such like!

been doing this for years and years, you can wash your jcloths too etc etc

and i only ever buy the value ones so it's not just the expensive brands that can stand up to this :T

However i tried tescos value tuna last week and its pretty much exactly the same as the john west stuff. Reverse of the situation with frozoen chicken breasts, asda smartprice are great, tesco value are shcoking (and only have about 60 percent chicken according to the ingredients!)

i have a problem with asda smart price frozen sweet corn, omg it was horrid, thick and they took the entire kernel vs cutting off the bottoms so not only was it thick like chewing on plastic it was like chewing on thick pointy plastic! even slow cooking did nothing to soften it, i swear it was field corn meant for animal feed!

however, tesco and morrisons both do tasty, sweetcorn and cut the bottom off the kernals so you don't risk a sore mouth just from eating it!

normally i do most of my shopping from asda for value products as it's the cheapest for online most of the time and the tesco's here is an express and has very few value products (and a mile and a half walk from my house, i use asda online when i get free delivery ;)) however, when i am in town i'll pop into tesco's and grab some sweet corn and the odd other value product as it's just not worth it for me to get corn from asda, i value you my dental health too much!
  • WHilst you're on the topic of Tesco ... I popped into my local Tesco Store this morning and discovered that they have reduced their sunglasses by 50% - not sure how long the sale goes for - but wanted to let you all know asap!!! It's not one of their 'value' items as such... but with 50% off is certainly is GOOD VALUE I think!
