As I entered my local Tesco today, all I could see was a whole aisle with various Value Products - tinned peaches, lemonade, washing powder etc.,

It will be there for the next 13 weeks, its Tesco's reaction to the news coverage of the cost of living going up so drastically. I think they want to show that you can still shop cheaply in their stores, and also to try and reduce the "embarrassment" that alot of people still have about buying value.

When it was being done yesterday, one of the girls at break said "at least we can see all the cheapskates down one ailse now" i went mad at them, saying that sometimes that is all people can afford.

This comment comes from the person who has 3 weeks in florida every year! Nice life if you can have it...some of us can't, can we!

I rely on value food. I always check the ingrediants and if it is near enough the same as brand products I will buy the value and it nearly always tastes the same, if not better.

I buy value mainly through choice, I do know people that will ONLY buy value becasue it is all they can afford.

Tesco curry sauce's are just as good as the homepride one's but the Asda ones are poor IMHO.

I explained to my 11 year old son the other week that things were getting expensive and we might have to make some cutbacks. He said his mate's mum buys most of the value stuff and we should try them to see what they taste like (I actually already do buy some value stuff but obviously he didn't know).

Anyway on our last shopping trip yesterday he went round the store finding value items and we are trying out a lot of them and giving them marks out of 10. Had the Swiss style museli for breakfast and he gave it 10 out of 10!

I've been convinced for some time that the value rice pudding is the same as the healthy living rice pudding - unless they have changed recently they both have the same ingredients, fat, sugar etc content!

I thought I read that they were rebranding their value products to be more like Aldi.

They are worth checking out - i always get the Value frozen pizza, and add some mozzarella and topping. Nice with some salad and pasta.

I also generally buy the value veg as its normally fine, and I wash it anyway. The only things that I generally avoid are Value meat and eggs.

My basket is Tesco is normally half Value and half Finest.
