My mum visited earlier bringing with her cumin gouda and nettle gouda from Holland. both smell lovely.

moo2moo, I'd love it if you could post your verdict on the nettle gouda, I'm on the look out for more things to do with nettles.

    Ta!

Oh dear not doing well at all this month.
In fact I have nearly spent. in the last 2 weeks. the same as my total April budget:eek:

Having trouble adjusting to cooking for warmer weather.
I have only really followed this forum for the winter months, so have lots of warming food recipes now but lacking greatly for the change in weather.

Find that I have gone back to ready meals, quiche, mini sausage rolls etc.

I did manage to make salmon fishcakes tonight:D very tasty, fell apart a bit but no one minded.

This is going to be an experimental month I feel:rolleyes:

are there any golden rules for cooking for the summer?
Grill a few sausages and keep them ready in the fridge?I also make scotch eggs using a veggy soya product called sosmix. It goes a long way! Try making up some egg mayo or tuna mayo. Potato salad is nice also-its so different to any of the bought stuff. Trifle is cheap-50p for a big dish the way I do it. homemade lollies.Crackers and cheeses. Try to make a nice big quiche yourself-fill it with your "oddments". Cheese is rather expesnive so Ive cut down on this somewhat. Bakes potatoes are easy in the micro. If you like readymeals-make your own in a big batch in pan or slowcooker. I try to do one big batch each week-something different so that generally when I go to my freezer I have 3 or 4 to choose from.
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

Oh J, please accept my condolences. I know how you feel as I was the same when my dad died unexpectedly, everything seems to happen at once, but it really does get easier, you never forget but you learn to cope.
:grouphug:Big hugs to you and your family. :grouphug:

    Morning all!

Great summer tips shaz thanks for those :T leonlala - I'm interested in your hairwashing tip with ecover and vinegar, can you give me a little more detail please? Do you still use conditioner?

Someone asked for icecream recipes yesterday (Can't remember who sorry!) The new issue of Sainsburys Magazine has a good article on using leftovers i it and theres a recipe for banana and brown bread ice-cream which sounds yummy. For those that don't want to buy the mag, here's the recipe (I haven't tried it yet but intend to next weekend!)

    Banana Brown Bread Ice-Cream - serves 4-6

Preheat the oven to 180C, fan 170C, gas 4. Whiz 110g (4oz) one or two day old brown bread into breadcrumbs then scatter them on a baking tray with 50g (2oz) soft brown sugar. Bake for 20 mins to caramalise the crumbs. Leave to cool then break into small pieces. Whip 400ml (14floz) double cream with 25g (1oz) icing sugar until the cream holds its shape. Mix with two over-ripe bananas, peeled and mashed and the breadcrumbs and freeze overnight.

The recipe doesn't say anything about having to go back and stir regularly, which is what appealed to me as I don't have an ice-cream maker!

This sounds really scrummy - I have been wondering what to do with my leftover bread today, was going to make bread & butter pudding, but might try this instead. :T Thanks,
