hi everyone i was wondering if it would be ok to join you. My name is laura i live with my partner and ds who is 1 in 2 weeks time. Our household budget has dramatically reduced recently as i have gone part time which was a £650 drop in wages. I have no idea really where to start and currently very little money, we have ran down all our stock of food over the past 2 weeks and now feeling the pinch and strain, i am currently trying to read through all posts but as you can imagine with a active baby i never have chance to sit and read lol. Any advise would be fantastic xx

    Morning all

Having another NSD today :T ....think i can get to WED/THUR before i need more fruit...can't run out of that

Hubby has tootled off to work this morning with 3 hm tortillas filled with southern coated chicken, salad and a splodge of greek yogurt... i got a romain lettuce so all the filling way rolled up in that and then the tortilla was wrapped around it -so hopefully there wil be no "soggy bits" ;) , oh and 3 hm sausage rolls have gone with him too..he ate the others yesterday evening :rotfl:
I have to say that i think my hubby is becoming OS/MSE :D on his way back from golf yesterday he stopped off to pick up some beers (that he won at golf :p ) and whilst in the NAFFI he went to the "whoops" fridge to see if there was anything i might use :j much to the amusement of his mate... apparently he didn't intend doing it but he found himself walking straight to that fridge ;)
Its going to be another day in the garden for me :j ..going to get the lawn done first, peg the washing out and then get some more bits set .... hubby has got to take me for more compost this week -hopefully another 4 bags and i should be done :o .....
Its jacket potato, cottage cheese and salad for dinner tonight... nice and easy...and a fave too.... right best get off and get something done...
have a great day everyone :D

Morning pepys! Well have decided that I am going to try for a no spent week! I need a couple of bits liek washing up liquid but other that that have enough food to feed a small family for a week or two so will see if I can do it! Anyone want to join me?! I may need some support along the way as do recognise that shopping still remains psychological/emotional for me in that, despite being a DFW for nearly 2 years, I still "need" to shop but now do it for groceries rather than tat!! Thinkig about this may set up a separate thread for a week and see how I go - pop over of you want to join or support!
lollyred I would try & set a budet that is reasonable for ont one and gradually start decreasing things and swap brands for non brands - ie I discovered that tesco rice crispies are nicer than kellogs but I still cant not have proper marmite & tomato ketchup!
Re markets in Cardiff Splott Market on a sunday is famous (or infamous!) for cheap veg although do inspect it! I got some oranges for marmalde & quite a few in the tray were somewhat manky so you do need to know what to loo for and be organised if youre going to cook & freeze straight away...Back later to update on my last few things & then will aim for no shopping until next week! gulp!

Just caught up with the thread read page 13 onwards.

Well second week complete opposite to first. Spent £23 on new slow cooker, hope that will pay dividends in the coming months. Top ups adding up send OH as he only gets things on the list but then dont get change:mad: .

Couldnt face MrTs yesterday so did an online shop for £80 less a £10 voucher/code. Hoping with bogofs it comes closer to £65 than £70.

Think I am at around £184 at the moment subject to the final shop total tommorrow. That leaves less than £120 for another 3 weeks. Going to be very tight if at all possible.

Will keep plugging away. Good luck to all.

PS Does anyone have a recipe for HM beef burgers? My kids are very fussy and I struggle to find things they will eat. Alot of the recipes on here they wont eat. I am experimenting a bit but have to be careful or it goes to waste.

Imagine its a combination of mince, breadcrumbs, flour and egg.

    Thanks

I think I,ve sussed it, for me anyway. Managed to get within my budget for the week, actually I think it,s longer than that, never mind. I,m also keeping as tally of my couponing, since March I,ve used £83.44 worth of coupons. Now, these allow me to buy things I cant really afford, and since my aim is to live better for less, I like that.
IRISHWEXFORD! Really sorry to hear about your troubles, makes you feel a bit sick inside doesnt it. Hope you dont suffer unduly.

hi there, happy bank holiday to all!!

wendy24g my oh makes yummie burger type things, my kids love it.:D

    1 lb /500g mince beef.
    1/2 small onion - diced
    some herbs chopped/ ripped
    salt and pepper to taste
    make into balls and flatten.
then grill in mod hot grill. turning at intervals.

Thanks moo2moo and saving for travel for high school hints. sounds like fun. :rotfl:.

managed a nsd yesterday, didn't go swimming instead we all went to the allotment and put in some potatoes. going to do some more today. free and fun! and aiming for nsd today too!

going to have roast chicken thighs etc for lunch,
making yogurt cake as per link, ( thank you ) as I too have runny yogurt to use up. wil try again with yogurt tonight.
I mixed the milk mix with a metal whisk and I've read somewhere to use a plastic spoon to mix. so that might be it? The first time i made yogurt the milk nearly boiled over and that was really thick!!
    will report back on that.
    sympathies and <<hugs>> to irishwexford.
    have a good one
