I took in my wife's and my ISA Forms to Barclays Bank on the 11th April 2008.
My ISA has arrived today dated 23rd May 2008 and the rate shown is 6.25% AER.
What happened to their statement, reported in Money Tips, that they would backdate the interest payable?
The payment for the ISAs has been languishing in my current account since the 10th April , mainly at 0.1% because it exceeded the £2500 that A & L pay proper interest on.
I have written to Barclays to say that I applied when the rate was 6.5% and, at no time have they been back to me to say that they were going to reduce the rate from 1st May. I believe that this is sharp practice and needs to be referred to the FSA.

They appear to have covered this under section 8 'Variation' of their Terms & Conditions, particularly section 8.4 "We will give you personal notice of any change which is to your disadvantage, apart from changes to our interest rates."

After reading this thread, I wasn't expecting much from Barclays but wow, surprise surprise. I applied on 9 May and today received a letter confirming the account was opened 23 May. That's exactly 2 weeks. I opened last year's Tax Haven ISA with them, took 4 weeks.

Went into the Chesterfield branch on 7th April. ISA actually opened on the 30th and the £3590 cheque that I deposited into it a few days later has finally left my current account at RBS this week.

What an appalling service. Bad enough to take so long to open them but then why not process the cheques at the branch. Absolutely dreadful processes and they deserve the stick they get. Why offer deals they know will attract business but not have the staff to deal with them?

Maybe in a years time they'll be snowed under with people moving them to a more reliable supplier.

Just read some of the posts on here - I am just glad I bank with Barclays - took 2 days for me after I clicked online. A new account has appeared on my online banking page which is the ISA and the money has transferred into it.

I guess the blurb will follow in the post soon...

Are you by chance married to a Barclays manager or executive?

It has now been some 6 weeks since I applied for this years cash ISA and Barclays have not cashed my cheque yet!
    Is this a record?

My cheque stub has 28th March on it, no sign of an account yet (no letter, nothing found by the branch).
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

    hiya,

opened my tax haven in just less than 3 weeks so all in all i'm happy with that. but i'm just wondering now about the sending the cheque thru the post business. anyone had any problems? i'll try sending it thru my local barclays internal post to see if that helps. i know it was postal only when i opened it but now i'm thinking i shouldn't have - id theft, loss of cheques, etc.

I don't think it is simple as whether you bank with Barclays or not. I've been with them for 11 years and applied for the ISA via online banking on 24th April. Other than a letter to say there may be a short delay of approx 4 weeks I've heard nothing since. Now more than five weeks and counting...

    That's weird..

I've just got in from the pub and the blurb has arrived..

    4 days total!

I feel all privileged now, even though I'm just your bog standard "Platinum banking current account" kinda person ;-)
