What I tend to do to get abit of extra money is do mystery shopping in my local town, with the 'Retail Eyes' company as well as 'Grass Roots'. They pay about £10 a time which isn't much, but it all adds up I suppose. I also do online questionnaires, mainly with 'Valued Opinions', and you get paid in the form of retail vouchers.

I have also signed up to a company where they send you small freebies and you must review them, although I haven't hear back from them. There is also the wonderful ebay which I spend most of my life on :D

The following publishers might be of interest - sorry I don't have web addresses etc but do a search for them on the internet.

    Running Press
    Virgin Books
    Spice
    Black Lace

    Good luck.

    Hi All,

Along these lines I've been thinking about offering babysitting / house sitting / pet sitting services in my local area.

I'm a godmother to several children, parents run an animal rescue centre so I have plenty of experience with children and animals (who I know you should never work with!)

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with what sort of money I would be looking at for these services?

And if there was any other measures I should take i.e. police checks provided etc
  • I think you'll need an Enhanced Disclosure if you want to register officially to babysit. Unless its just friends and family you're doing it for. They might expect a discount tho'!

You could advertise your services on http://gumtree.co.uk. They have local sites in most cities and more important, it is free.

I've done some leaflet posting in the last week or 2 for the local curry house. I get £30 per 1,000 leaflets. It is hard work unless u love walking and have spare time.

I'm a lazy sod so decided to tag along a nephew and his friend, I left them to do a an area and when I got back I saw all the cars with leaflets on the back windscreen and caught his mate throwing them in the garden. I got 5 complaints that day mostly from people who had 2 leaflets on their car and 2 in their letterbox, nor surprise I got shut of them and started doing it on my own but it's hard work, just do 2 hours on a daily basis.

I've been told it can take around 15/20 hours to post 2,000 to earn £60.00
I wouldn't know cos I've had 2 batches of 2,000's but always posted half and binned the other half...............naughty naughty

My latest money saving wheezes are

    1) stop drinking alcohol. This may seem as 'cutting back' or deprivation, but actually I did it because I read an excellent book about it (the Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr) and I feel terrific. Saving about £100 a month.

    2) Have built website, but have used different ad software then Google (as it's rubbish) called Miva. These ads are much better (Barclaycard, DFS, HSBC etc) than Google and it's in £££ instead of $$$.

My website was easy to build, as it's all ready for you. You just choose your colours and type. It's called mrsite.co.uk .

    Good luck!

Miva ain't no google - google has greater depth in terms of advertisers and what is shown, google ads are contextual and are available more-or-less for any topic you care to write about on your website. Miva on the other hand have an extensive network yes, granted, but are never as good as google because google has a MASSIVE volume of advertisers.

If you give your website time and use google you will see results, it takes time. I have websites and do ok out of google adsense, this is because the pages are well put together and the adsense can detect the theme of my content and serve ads that are appropriate and the site will earn around the same as if I had Miva ads on my site, if not more as the targetting of the ads is spot on with Google.

    Trust me, google does rule.
