Im wanting to make a little desert for my daughter for christmas day and thought of making her a plumb and cinnemon crumble but I have no idea how to make a crumble. Im sure i have everything I need but as she is 11 months old so salt is a no no! but Im not sure if I would need to add salt to it anyway.
Could ayone point me in the right direction or does anyone know a baby friendly crumble recipie
many thanks
Ingredients
2-3 medium-sized Sweet cooking apples (1 to 1.5 lb (500 to 750 gm)
4 oz (100 gm) Brown / Demerara sugar
4 oz (100 gm) Self-raising flour
4 oz (100 gm) Soft butter
2 oz (50g) raisins or sultanas as liked
1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon is a nice addition if liked
You will also need a deep 8-10 inch ovenproof baking dishes.
Method
Grease the dish well. Peel, core and chop the apples and arrange on the base of the bowl, add the raisins/sultanas, plus the cinnamon if included.
Sprinkle half the sugar over the fruit, and cover with 2-3 tablespoons of water.
Now in a separate bowl rub together the flour and the butter, to make the "crumble".
You are aiming for a firm consistency that is crummy in texture.
Place this over the apples.
Sprinkle the remaining sugar over the top, and bake in a slow-medium oven for 45 minutes, or until the "crumble" is a golden brown (Gas Mark 3-5, 180-190 C, 350-375 F).0 -
Or whizz for a few seconds in the food processor!TL0

Instead of the flour, I either use museli, or porridge oats. Gives a good rough texture. Sorry didn't read the bit for baby:o0

so for the actual crumble its just self raising flour and butter?
or if using oats, just oats and butter?
thanks for your replys0 -
Yes - plus the sugar, demarara makes a good crunch. Start with the basic recipe as Mattogier suggested, then substiute another time. That way you will know what you should have - if you see what I mean.
Maybe take out half the flour for a start and substiute with oats.
I tend to throw stuff in, and experiment, but if you know the basics it does help.0 -
thank you!
My mum would be more than happy to be giving her chocolate cake and cream but I have made a rule not to give her chocolate but still wanted her to have a nice little pudding while we have ours
Will have a play around in the kitchen tomorow
thanks again0 -
Hi
For my twin daughters I make the crumbles in little ramekin dishes so they can have their own little pudding. I use flour and marg to rub into breadcrumbs and then stir in the sugar and a table spoon of oats.0 -
I bought some little ramekins last night with this in mind. I like the idea of adding oats into the crumble too so shall give that a try0

Ramekins - lovely idea!TL0

You could put some dried fruit in with the plums as well - lovely in apple crumble and it does help up the 'five a day'! Ginger also nice in the crumble mixture!0
