I just finished my earrings! Just need to get an idea in my head for the necklace now.
I so need to learn how to post pictures on here so I can ask for ideas.
  • I would love to start making jewellery/beading. I have had a look at some supply sites and the mind boggles......all that terminology etc etc. can anyone recommend a good 'start up' kit, glossary or book that will get me started.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi all,

Not sure if I've posted this in the correct part of the forum - I'm fairly new to this forum!

I've been beading for a coupe of years and I want to try selling my work online. Does anyone have any experience of Etsy and Folksy websites? Both appear better value than Ebay, but I'd be interested in hearing other people's experiences.

Eventually I'd like to have my own website up and running - does anyone know of a good web host?

Also does anyone sell their beaded work through local shops? I'm thinking of ringing around a few to see if they would sell my work or not but I dont want to appear cheeky and I also dont want to get ripped off on commission charges.

Sorry for all the questions to you all, but any help would be good,

    Thanks

I am thinking of starting making jewellry, would be great for presents etc. Anyone know of any good starter kits? Because I don't have anything to get me going...so would need to buy it all! Or books - obviously want to start with whatever is easiest!! Thanks in advance :)

    Hi all!

I thought this thread had disappeared, not seen anyone posting for ages!
All those wanting to get into jewellery making ebay is probably a good place to start. There are lots of low-cost starter kits on there. Best bet is one with some findings (earring hooks & headpins), fasteners (clasps etc), jump rings and tigertail/beading wire. Some small cutting pliers and round nose ones are good to have too. Then you can pick your beads and be on your way!

I've not made much since xmas, although I did make some gorgeous wirework bracelets for chrissy pressies! I'm now saving up for a lampworking kit. Its such a big outlay, so I might be waiting a while, especially if I want to get a decent kiln.

Anyone know where I might find some camouflage patterned beads. My sons has requested I make him a necklace and he is heavily into anything with an army theme. I found some that I like on Ebid....unfortunately the seller never sent them out to me  so I've got my money back and am having to look again. The ones I found on Ebid were really nice, I want to put them on a leather thong so don't want too many of them.

Can anyone suggest where I might find some?

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

You might be able to commission some from someone who does their own lampwork beads ... but may work out quite expensive ??
