…After writing to them and complaining about the customer service received a space pen and a with complements card. No letter to explain why it happened or answer any questions I asked them. Santander customer service is horrible and looks like they have passed that on to Abbey. Good luck to anyone who tries to apply, you never know you might just end up with a credit search for no reason and a cheap pen if things go wrong…
That’s not fair! They never sent me a cheap pen, just a load of aggravation…

I am another Abbey Zero user who is less than impressed with the service. I applied online and was accepted with no problems. I was then contacted by them to say that that my address did not match the one they had on record… …The problem is, ample time is nowhere near long enough for Abbey. It took 8 weeks for me to get my card despite numerous calls to chase and like some of the others above was told that it was due to heavy demand...
This problem is covered more than once in the myriad pages above. I don’t blame you for not reading the whole thread however; it is a VERY depressing story.

…Applied about 4 weeks ago and had heard absolutely nothing - called to ask what was going on last week and I was told I would hear something from them soon. Called again this morning to be told that the address on my application isn't my address?? It's in the same town but it isn't mine…
And again, history repeats itself. Grupo Santander obviously have a problem being honest with their customers.
The company is shambolic and I will be cancelling the card as soon as the 0% period ends and I will never be tempted by any Abbey deal ever again. Please be warned ;)
One can only assume that Abbey or Santander (or whatever name they want to go by) desperately wants to haemorrhage customers to the competition over the next few months.

I for one will certainly be assisting them in meeting their target!

How do you know when is your 0% ending?

    1) No date on statement.
    2) CS is useless (they respond with "I think..", "It seems.."), no definative answers.

    Thanks...
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

What Virgin card did you go for jody04c? I’m going to move on from Abbey as soon as possible, as I feel very uneasy about the future with them.

I have to agree that they are now disorganised and useless. Such a shame, as we’ve been a customer for thirty-three years, and they used to be very good.

It’s time to cut all my links with them now…

Hi.. Applied for the new Virgin deal of 16.6 APR direct from their site.... Card is brilliant with an excellent online facility showing date of 0% expiry and so easy to use......

Virgin have manged to get right what Abbey have got so so wrong.....

Shame what Santander have done to what was once a very respectable company... Ps...... Eventually got my Zero today......... Many many weeks later!!!!!! Get yourself a Virgin Card and see how it should be done... Its also one of the best deals currently on the market..

Is this still on offer? I was thinking of applying for one now that Nationwide is introducing charges for use abroad. But I get the impression from Abbey's website that there's currently only one Abbey credit card, and it's not the Zero card - http://www.abbey.com/csgs/Satellite?appID=abbey.internet.Abbeycom&canal=CABBEYCOM&cid=1210607177336&empr=Abbeycom&leng=en_GB&pagename=Abbeycom%2FPage%2FWC_ACOM_TemplateW2

    Anyone know?

The date is always on there - at the back of the statement

My statement showed an ambiguous date of 04-03.

Uncertain whether that meant 4th March or 3rd April I phoned their Customer Services and once again spoke to someone who couldn’t tell me for sure.

"I think.." and "It seems.." pretty much sums it up. I’m sure it suits them very nicely to be ambiguous over a date like this. The other dates were clear, just that one important one written backwards…

Are you talking about the end of 0% offer date? If so, mine reads 2009-06-04. Does yours not include the year? I read mine to be CCYY-MM-DD therefore 4th June (not the 6th April). In my instance, this date aligns 6 months interest free offer. Hope that helps.

No longer available to new applicants. Try the Post Office card instead.

    Hmm…

For many years when I worked on transatlantic business I always showed a date in the format 01-Jan-09 to avoid ambiguity. To have four Americans turn up for a 4th May meeting on 5th April would definitely be embarrassing for whoever organised it.

The Americans partially reverse the date. In Western Europe, for convenience (and computer sorting reasons) we fully reverse the date. Hence the September 11th attacks in New York City, often referred to as nine-eleven, written 9/11. So there’s scope for ambiguity.

My points (from post #408) being that: 1) Abbey could be clear on dates, but they choose not to be by reversing just the one date on the whole statement, and 2) Abbey’s customer service is just as atrocious as it was months ago.

I should probably point out that Abbey took months to set up my Zero account (see above buried somewhere) so it was hard to tell exactly when the finish date would be, and 4th March and 3rd April are not that far apart.

I moved the remainder of my debt to Virgin Money. The whole process was a doddle. Abbey could learn a lot from them, however, I’m sure they won’t! I look forward to killing off my very last bit of business with Abbey/Santander in a month or so. I started with Abbey National in 1974. Such a shame!
