New card - Abbey Zero

Not a problem. I do pop on here amongst other things when I am online in the evenings or weekends. Abbey/Santander probably don't totally like me posting on here but won't be too perturbed as I've tried to be an impartial middleperson between customer service and the customer.0

Abbey/Santander probably don't totally like me posting on here but won't be too perturbed as I've tried to be an impartial middleperson between customer service and the customer.…Spoke to Abbey and asked them to canx the BT which was now no longer required- they put it in the notes and said they would. Just to be safe I wrote a (recorded delivery) letter to Abbey at Grafton Gate East, saying please do not do the Balance Transfer.
Beginning of October Abbey finally get around to issuing me a PIN number (which means the card will follow shortly). I check the Sainsbury's credit card just in case. Sure enough Abbey's done the balance transfer which I'd asked them not to, so giving me a large positive balance on the Sainsbury's card…
…What a mess Abbey!!!
My card turned up after nine weeks (due to my going higher and higher until somebody actually did something) but when they eventually started the account up, they blindly carried out my original BT exactly as requested nine weeks earlier.
Things change in nine weeks don’t they? Currently for bankers, things change in nine minutes. No wonder the banks are disintegrating so rapidly in this credit crunch world!
It really wouldn’t take much to sort out this mess, but clearly Banco Santander are not prepared to do it. In the meantime their dirty linen continues to be washed in public here.
What's the capital of Iceland? Answer: About £7.50…0 -
Hi,
I wanted to add my voice to this thread - I have experienced a terrible time in applying for the abbey (grabby) zero credit card. I applied on 9th sept, and to date no one can tell me when I will get a decision. I have a good credit rating and am now about to start suffering for their complete incompetence by getting close to the time on paying interest on a balance I hoped to have transferred. Their customer service is appalling: I have made three calls to chase this so far, I was transferred a comical nine times the first time, hung up on the second and received absolutely no information the third. Do not do it. You have been warned.... Seriously don't do it0 -
Finally received my zero card today. :eek:0

Just wanted to add my story in here. I applied online in July and got a letter saying that I had been accepted, but needed to go into a branch with some ID because I had an existing account registered at another address (I duly did this and it turned out to be 67p in a savings account from 17 years ago!). Branch staff were very helpful and faxed everything through for me.
I hadn't heard anything by early August, so rang up to check and they said they had no record of my application and because it had been an online one, it was probably lost and i should reapply over the phone. I did this and was verbally accepted. Then I heard nothing. Rang up every two weeks or so - the response was always that there was a delay in sending everything out. Fine, I was happy to be patient, but it's now been over three months since I first applied and each time I ring (still every fortnight), they say I will have everything within 10 days. I'm getting quite annoyed now.
However...I noticed that Abbey did a check on my credit file (which is all in good shape) on the 30th of September. That has to be good news, right? :rolleyes:0 -
DH applied for this card online, with a balance transfer and everything went through quickly and without hassle. DD set up for minimum payment and everything has been going fine.
Lulled into a false sense of security, DS applied for a card. No balance transfer, but wanted interest free spending for 6 months. Application goes through, card arrives and all appears fine.
1st statement arrives showing purchases of £1.15, stating this amount will be taken by dd on 1 August. OK. 2nd statement arrives showing £232.14 to be taken on 2 September. DS does not query this, but thankfully because there were credits greater than this, all was ok. 3rd statement arrives, saying £772.71 to be debited on 3 October. DS telephones Abbey and gets me to speak to them. Obviously, there is a problem with the direct debit. I was advised by CS that only £5 would be taken by direct debit in October. I even made a note of the date, and the CS name and the name of her supervisor, thankfully. I was even told that a letter confirming this would be sent. I and DS then promptly forgot about the matter. 4th statement arrives yesterday and what do I see - LATE PAYMENT FEE. Why? Because they took nothing by direct debit in October.
DS is at university and when he comes home next weekend, we will have to try and get this sorted. I am so cross, this mob are a total shambles. My advice to anyone thinking of getting this card - DON'T DO IT.0 -

I've pasted this here from a different thread I started:
About two months ago I called up and was accepted over the phone for an Abbey Zero card. However, even after several calls to chase, I still haven't received the paperwork to sign so I can open the card and transfer my balance. For the two months worth of interest I've paid in the mean time on my existing credit card, I could have done a balance transfer with a different account and paid the transfer fee!!!
Am happy to have the opportunity to vent my frustration here- on the phone they don't have a bloody clue. Everything will always reach me in the next 5 working days. It's cost me 60 quid in interest fees just waiting. I am very very angry.0
