    ASDA - cheapest freeview box £38.?? :o
No reliance should be placed on the above.
  • I can strongly recommend the Echostar T101 (£44-99 at Argos and Woolies) - particularly because it has a very sensitive receiver and is good in fringe or weak reception areas.

According to the Freeview website, we are not supposed to be able to receive the signal here but following my experience several of our neighbours have bought T101s - all with good results. One of them had previously tried a Thompson box without any success.

Would you say the Echostar is user friendly by wrinklies? Are there comprehensive user instructions? I read somewhere that not all boxes enable using interactive buttons/services-has the T101 got it? If yes to all these sounds like a trip to woollies will be likely. Thanks.

I would say it's user friendly, for a freeview box at least. It's got very uncomplicated menus. Interactive services work fine. I have not even read the instructions so I can't comment on them.

The one problem mine has is sometimes you come back to it and the picture has gone, just change channel to bring it back. I am not sure what causes this but I do have a VERY weak signal so that might be it, however aside from this small problem it's very stable and much better in that regard than the vast majority of freeview boxes around at the moment.

I would hope/guess the new version with the 8 day EPG is as good, but I have not seen one so I cannot comment!

I bought the Ferguson box last year after seeing a late night advert for the same offer. Only saw it the once, logged on and ordered it and then it disappeared. Nice to see them doing the offer again.

As for the box, it's doing quite well with just a portable aerial in an area which technically isn't getting Freeview (According to the Freeview website). No complaints - I think it's a bargain for what I need it to do :)

  • Re the Echostar T101, the instructions are clear and straightforward. Indeed you can even download an advance copy from their website https://www.echostar-int.com - see the support menu.
  • I got the Boots one today ... and paid for it with points (courtesy of mse as to how to obtain loads points quickly!) Mr Brulee set it up within 5 mins in our panasonic telly (and believe u me, he has difficulty changing a plug) - well over 5 years old now and hey presto, wall to wall cbeebies for baby brulee - bedtime hour ...bliss! Mr Brulee happy with sports channel - gives me more time for surfing!

Am sending him out tomorrow to get one for grandad brulee for Xmas - another pressie sorted (bought on points of course!) ;)
