Am I right in assuming that I would need an external Antennae / Aerial to make a freeview box work or will it work with a small indoor antennae ? For the NW10 area.

Im living in a new build house and there is no external aerial, iv had no problem using a pound shop aerial.

NW10 puts you 11 miles from Crystal Palace, so I think an outdoor antenna would be needed.

Having said that, if you can borrow a Freeview box from someone, then you've nothing to lose by trying your indoor aerial.

    Freeview TVs?

We need a new main TV. Is it worth getting an integrated digital tv?

We've had a set top box before but thought it was rubbish- it started crashing all the time 6 months after we got it.

The only thing holding me back is the fact that there are very few integrated sets out there- the "norm" is a standard tv plus a digibox according to the availability of the main retailers. Can't decide why this is is.

What pros and cons do people know of?

    Thanks
    Kat
  • Hey squashy,

Hope this isn't too late for you.

If it were me, (as it was recently), I'd go for a separate TV and set-top box (To go under the TV).

Money allowing, I'd also go for a more expensive/reliable/longer lasting/better featured machine, too. You'll be suprised how often Twin Tuners will be required and a Hard Drive to store your recordings (as a temporary measure before splashing out on a DVD recorder) is almost a must! Look, you're buying a nice telly, don't skip on what is almost as important - the ability to time shift in perfect quality!

As you can probably gather I'm sold on the idea, so is my wife (the kids, also), and the box in question? I'm plugging the Inverto IDL7000PVR as it's got just what you want and no more (Maybe?).
All this can be obtained at Boots.com for £149.99 (Less discount vouchers and points value it's almost a cheap as chips!) See here for the offer.

    Good hunting.
  • For those of you who simply MUST have the cheapest and are looking for a Freeview box, check out the aldi site. From the 10th September they are selling what is possibly the cheapest ever Freeviw box in the land! Get there quickly if you want one. Tis a Tevion (Same make as Medion?) and will be selling for ... £23.99 - This price even includes a scart lead, batteries for the remote and a 3 (THREE) year warranty!!!
These will sell like hot cakes!

For those of you who may not know, Aldi operate one of the best returns policies in the uk - if for any reason you decide you don't want/like it within the next 12 months, just take it back (with the receipt) and they will refund your credit card (Yes, they even take credit cards!) can it get any better? You may want to say it no longer works properly, but I've never had any prob's on that score.

P.S. My cheapie Freeview box in the bedroom is running off an internal/set-top aerial and receives all channels perfectly. You may, however, want/need to give the "verty" a proper feed. "Suck it & see" as the best Rock and Roll band in the World (Still) once said)

How long has your freeview last? I'll be quite interested to know? So let's find out which is the most reliable one.

I'm still using the very very first Pace Freeview receiver - when they cost £99 - and Freeview had just launched - before the other brands got in on the act - that must be at least about 4 or 5 years now - for ease of use and reliability compared to the three others that a relative has got through since - I still can't fault it - it's still going strong - it's a pity PACE withdrew from the DTT receiver market.

Me too, never freezes a bit slow on text but hey does the job just fine.

Oh and I`m considered to be in a poor reception area.

These can still be picked up on ebay for a few quid.
