    Andy,
this is the thing for you, get down to Aldi tomorrow, seems to be around 20 per store, pvr at £99, nice Chrismas plaything, if you dont like it take it back for a full refund. I believe they have a no quibble guarantee.

  • I have a cable connection for NTL+receiver from the previous tenant. I do not subscribe though I do get some channels+tasters which are changed every month or so. I also have a large satellite dish for receiving Hotbird/Arabsat channels connected to an Echostar receiver. Would I be able to use any of these to receive the Freeview Channels or cable TV channels without purchasing yet another set-top box to add to my collection?
  • harrowwoman, I'm afraid not. The satellite dish receives channels that are on completely different frequencies to what 'Freeview' broadcast on. The cable box uses some of the same frequency range as 'Freeview' but they use a whole different type of broadcast system - one that is incompatible.

There's a lot more interesting stuff to watch on Hotbird IMO - and I wouldn't mind Arabsat as apparently that's got plenty of US/UK shows in the clear.

Just picked up an Oggle Freeview Box at Asda for £29, has twin scarts and a 7 day EPG. Also included in the box is a coaxial cable and scart lead! Simple set up in 3 minutes and a brilliant picture.

Asda also has a pacific model at the same price, but is a strange shape.

Someone posted this link http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/terrestrial/epg/ earlier in the thread. Are all channels listed free to watch on FreeView?
  • Not sure, but I think so. If you go to http://www.freeview.co.uk/ then you can see all the Freeview channels listed there.
  • I have the full Sky package but dont really use the vast majority of channels in fact the only sport I watch is Rugby League so I find freeview an attractive proporsition do I need to buy a box or could I utilise the sky box to get the channels and kick sky into touch.
