Trying really hard to OS but the prices keep going up

Asda had some scottish oats in 500gm packs for 25p about two weeks ago. Does anyone know if they still have them at that price. It worked out cheaper than the value ones and the other variety in a 2kg bag. Took me a few mins to add it all up, then I bought about six packs which seemed to be loads but it's nearly running out.Second purse £101/100

Yeah but I can't do that. I don't eat cereals and I need oats also for cooking and baking. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

Just phoned Tescos to complain about 50% price rises for value ingredients plus our local store has been out of stock of some value items for 2 months . I see this as a deliberate policy to try to get us to pay for the dearer items. Spoke to a very nice lady in Scotland who agreed I was right to at least register my complaint. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

I'm starting to notice that Sainsburys are getting cheaper than Mr Ts due to a wider range of basics products (particularly veg). Mr Ts also seem to have shorter shelf lives. I actually shop in ASDA now which is in the next village because overall I've found them to be cheaper. However, basics like milk, canned tomatoes, cheese and eggs all seem to be going up in price like there's no tomorrow. I see petrol prices are on the rise now too.
I'm in the same boat as hardup hester - food prices went up but my salary went down due to income tax. My line manager couldn't believe it when I told her how much I earn after tax! And due to my company's policy she does not have the authority to give me a raise.
My other half is an assistant manager and I am a buyer's assistant so we don't have bad jobs. But we do have a very minimal income in relation to food ands living costs. We've even had to sell our car and borrow my dad's for stuff like picking up my stepson at weekends. We have a worse standard of life than when I was a student and my OH worked in a factory and yet we now earn double.Taking baby-steps :beer:0 -
iceland is always good for HUGE bags for oats at a really cheap price. and for lots of other things too but no one much seems to go to iceland!!! its really good.
this morning i went into my local chinese supermarket to get a bag of dried sage; i have posted on here before that they are really cheap, usually about 70-80p a very big bag. today they were £1.25. thats around a 50% hike in less than a month. justifiable?? i think not!!!!
i wonder if people are cashing in on this 'prices will rise because of........'
iniceland i buy lots of stuff like frozen pork chops. notmuch to look at, and honestly not much good as pork chops go BUT cut them up and put them in the slow cooker, with sage, onions and a selection of dried peas and beans and its the most wonderful casserole you could wish for. £2 for four (sometimes 5 or 6 if they are on offer), and it does us two meals with the dried beans. soak them overnight of course and lots of chicken stock cubes (only knorr will do).
also noticed in iceland this week that the tins of stuff that have been four for a pound for eons, are now three for a pound.0 -
I noticed that next week's Lidl specials include some Italian ingredients including risotto rice (arborio) £1.89 for 1kg. I think that's roughly the same price it was on for last time they did Italian specials - which at the time wasn't worth it (you could buy it at Asda for under 70p for 500g) but now that it's £1 at Asda and more elsewhere, it looks like the best deal around.

Did an online shop at Tesco this week and while flicking through the cereal to see what was cheap I noticed the value oats at 88p per kg. Just out of interest I checked for other oats and 500g bag of Tesco Scottish oats are 39p, which means you can get 1kg of what is probably better quality oats for 10p less! However, buy a 1kg bag of the Scottish oats and they are £1.49! It sometimes makes me wonder whether they just pick numbers out of a hat for pricing, the way the prices of the value stuff goes up and down from week to week and this certainly makes no sense at all!0

motherkitty, I noticed online yesterday that the value oats are now back to 58p. Even more strange!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
