I know, it's mad. In Asda the other day they were the same, I refuse to buy them at that price. A cucumber conspiracy?

they are really expensive at the moment everywhere. They are out of season here but in previous years they have normally stayed around the same price throughout the year.

It's been that price for a couple of weeks now. The wholesale price has shot up and even in the cash and carry trade prices were around £1.50 each or £12.50 for case of 10 large ones.
My veg man was selling it at the market at 75p for small whole small cuc last week but this was pennies profit, just to stop the customers moaning he said!
There are always these blips in prices at this time of year, same with Iceberg lettuce a few weeks before. The price will settle down again, once the blip is over. I would say just stop buying it for now..it's not really a "can't live without" item is it!!

I paid £1.25 for a whole cucumber from the greengrocers on Wednesday, it's roughly about the same price as Asda, Tesco etc but it was about 3 times the size! My Tesco isn't even stocking the whole cucumbers, just halves and they're tiny little thin things.

Me and DH have decided we're not having salad for a while, a £1 for a lettuce and £1.28 for a cucmber is just too much for us. Add on the toms, spring onions etc and it works out to be very expensive.
We just have to wait a while.

We really like cucumber in sandwiches and to eat sliced as lunch box extras with cherry toms and carrot sticks but I think you are right Bronnie, we deff can live without them.
Hopefully they will be cheaper in a couple of months.

I need to go to the butcher in the next village tomorrow so I will look in the greengrocer to see if they are any cheaper there.

Its hardly salad season though is it - its alwas been cheaper to eat seasonal stuff and carrots, parsnipp and swede keep the chill out a bit better than cucmber!

Feeling a bit scared about prices now, went to buy some oats and Tesco value have now gone up from 58p to 88p. 50% increase!Tesco own brand now work out slightly cheaper than the value ones. Asda SP are still 58p.
