I so agree the prices are still going up even in these recessionary times.
I bulk buy whatever is on offer at the moment netto are doing I can't believe its not butter BOGOF £1.18 so I have bought 6 tubs total cost £3.54 that has gone into the freezer they are also doing Kenco coffee £1.99 for 200g
Sugar, tea and flour are starting to increase in price too so that means I will buying a lot of flour, sugar, tea bags and pasta in the next few weeks.
Dried fruit has gone up a lot and so has chocolate - I went to buy some chocolate chips last week and they have gone up from 38p to 52p.
Why is it we are always ripped off in this country if we were in France or Germany people would be screaming blue murder!Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

In morrisons the other day, and couldn't believe how much cucumber has rocketed in price over the last 6-8 months. You used to be able to get a half one for around 32p and a whole one for 64p. Now it's 64p for a half and £1.28 for whole
I'm now finding no matter how carefully I shop, I'm still shocked at the total each time I get to the till. Every time, I look at what I have and think, surely that can't be right?:eek:0 -
With fruit and veg though, is it because things are not in season that prices are going up?
Tesco have stopped carrying their own label peanut butter for some reason and the cheapest jars they have are around the £2 mark. I know that Asda and Morrisons still do them, so planning a stock up the next time I'm away.
I do try and buy things when they're on offer, as far as possible.0 -

Ah, so it's not just at my store then. I noticed a few weeks before xmas that they'd disappeared off the shelves. I preferred their own brand as it's softer than Sunpat (and of course, cheaper) so I'm really annoyed that I can't get it any more. Bought some peanut butter in Aldis at the weekend so will see if that's ok.0 -
I have noticed a lot of the smart price/basics/value lines have started to disappear too is this a supermarket conspiracy now they know that we are not willing to pay over the odds for basic foodstuffs?Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I`ve noticed the basic staples are the things that seem to be going up in price the most. Both Asda and Morrisons bread flour has gone up by 20p per bag, Morrisons actually went up by 30p and i noticed that the shelves wern`t touched so it`s gone back down by 10p.
I`m absolutely sick of it and there`s not much that we can do atm.
I`m determined to grow most of our own veg this year and plan on starting early. If things go ok i shall freeze lots for next winter. I plan on foraging for berries etc too, i still have two bags of blackberries left in the freezer from last summer and they`ve lasted really well.
Has anyone bought sacks of breadflour direct from a mill before? I use about two bags a week and was wondering if this was a cheaper way to do it but i`m worried about storage. Assuming that i can find somewhere that delivers i might just give it a go.
When i make the sandwiches for DH pack up i now only butter one slice of bread and i`m always looking for ways to make everything go further.
In the supermarket yesterday everyone seemed to be talking about the prices and how fed up they were.

Sainsburys Basics peanut butter is nice - as is the Lidl one. Not much use to you though Nesssie I know. Don't the co-op do a cheap-ish one?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Have you noticed value stuff going up in price? Our Tescos had stock cubes at 8 p for both chicken and veg before xmas and they went up to 10p for veg and 19p for chicken only a coupla weeks later. They have stayed at that price too. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

I've wondered the same thing myself. I usually get through a couple of 1.5kg bags of bread flour a week. I think storage would be a problem for me though. It really bites that i started baking bread to save money, but the price of baking bread from scratch has risen considerably.
About buttering one side of the bread for sandwiches, i do the same thing too, except if it is a 'wet' filling, like canned tuna with sweetcorn, i find the bread goes quite soggy if it doesn;t have the margarine barrier on both pieces of the bread .Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
