IMHO, Money Savers, and Old Stylers in particular, are best placed to weather the current storm
We have an exising thread about prices rising, so I'll add your post to keep ideas together

I don't know how people can afford not be old style these days. I've had friends ask me for recipes, about home made bread etc who a year ago would have just teased me for being a skinflintweaving through the chaos...0

I agree that people who save money in the OS way will cope better.
I'm trying to spend a totaol of £500 over 6 months i've already spent just under £300 on bulk buying mince, chicken, pasta etc and have £200 for all the little extras. After my first week i realised that it may be easier than i thought. We are by no means eating budget food i'm just sticking to a budget.
My best friend, has the same size family, with young children being the same ages, spends £450 every month:eek: Now i grow all our own veg but still i was really shocked.
This is my second week and we are eating like kings it's just that now i cook 100% everything from scratch even snacks.
Edited to say - flipping hell that's a difference of ££4400 over a year between my spend and hersKind Regards

Am totally gobsmacked! Just been to do the weekly shop and went to pick up a pack of Mr T value spaghetti which is usually 23p. Can't believe it has gone up to 39p and so has the value pasta penne which is usually 18/20p!
Refused to buy it on principal - how can they justify doubling the price overnight?
Ran across the road into Morrisons and bought a few packs each of value pasta twists much nicer than Tesco's anyway) and spaghetti which are still 19p for twists and 23p for spaghetti. But for how long..........0 -
I noticed this week that value unsalted butter is now 94p, the same price as Mr T's normal unsalted butter. I've just checked online and the value lasagne sheets are now 45p, I'm sure I only paid about 30p last week.
This is what's annoying me about price rises, it's not luxury stuff that's going up but the cheap basic stuff like value pasta & tinned tomatoes, and it's not just going up by a few pennies either!Dum Spiro Spero0 -

How can they justify these increases its ridiculous

i bought skimmed longlife uht milk 1l cartons at tescos on14th oct at 41p ea
this week19th oct they have rocketed up to 54p each!
not bad a 32% increase in 5 days!!!!!!!!!!!
went on comparrison web site and what a surprise asda and others are charging the same (sudden increase). no price fixing there then?
shopped around and found lidl at 41p each
and sainsburys basics at 41p each, so my weekly purchase of 20 cartons has moved to sainsburys.
tescos can shove it!0 -
We have a Lidl and a Sainsbury in the town and a Tesco near home.
Netto, Morrisons and Aldi are further away in different areas.
Whenever we are in the vacinity of the ones that are further away, OH and I pop in and have a quick look around and buy whatever is on special that we know we WILL use.
I also get the weekly leaflet sent to me online from Netto and Lidl, so we can get a look at what is on offer, before we go to the respective shops.
This way, we have managed to build up quite a stock of bleach, washing powder, toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, canned fruit and veg, breadmix, frozen veg, etc, at cheaper prices then what is out there now.
We've got it stashed all over the house, a lot of it in the box room.
During last night, we heard an almighty crash and both woke up.
A plastic bottle of bleach had fallen off the shelf and taken out the dustpan and brush as well, on the way down.
OH had tried to stuff it in onto the shelf and it wasn't quite snug.
It sounded like World War 3 had started.
