    Hi

I recently tried the half fat clover, and honestly can't taste the difference between that and the full fat version. Better still it's on offer at Tesco at the moment for 0.87p.

I am convinced myself that the supermarkets will use this whole credit crunch thing to boost up prices above and beyond the actual increased costs. This not only makes them more profit they look good when they "cut" prices.
They definately do this as I rememeber seeing a free range egg farmer say his costs went up for his feed and he had to charge around 10% extra. But on the shelves the eggs went up by over 30%.

I also suspect they believe more people will move away from ready meals and luxury items towards buying more ingredients to cook their own. Therefore they need to increase the prices on basics to keep profits up.

DH works at a supermarket, so thankfully we get a discount, but that's about the main reason we mainly shop at one store. I do watch sales and pick up things here and there at others, as adult DD (who lives with us) works at a different supermarket and can get discount there! Thank goodness!

I've been watching prices carefully and can't believe how much things have gone up. It definitely has affected our buying habits. We've gone down into the cheapest range of products for a lot of stuff, but haven't really noticed any big different in taste. What we'll do if prices keep rising is anyone's guess.

  • I am just amazed at how so many people are still buying so much expensive food . Where are they all getting their money from? Can they all be running up credit bills?
I have always looked for yellow labels and now I find sometimes I cannot even afford reduced food now. I never buy ready meals or anything like that I wouldnt even if I could afford it.I have always cooked from scratch because it tastes better.
  • hi adsa has done the same their corned beef has gone up from 76p to £1.16 more than 50% increase

You're lucky if that's only just gone up in price in your area as corned beef has been well over a pound round here for 3-4 months now!
  • We're fortunate that we are fairly well cocooned from the price rises at the moment as we are virtually living off the produce from the allotment. However, on my most recent trip to Lidl I had to buy sunflower oil and I'm totally in shock. The last time I bought some, a few months ago, I remember thinking wow thats really gone up quickly as it had gone from something like 80p to just over £1, yesterday it was £1.59 That's some increase in just a few months:eek:
