hi, well we managed to get some fuel today, the morrisons station has been open over the weekend, but it looks like everyone had the same idea and were panic buying. I dont think that the strike will end tomorrow, I think that they will plan more. Just cant keep up with everything, when is it going to end?!

It will end tomorrow but then another 4 day strike planned to start next Friday - according to the morning news.
We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

We have one petrol station in our market town of 8,000 people. Needless to say it has no petrol, yet in the next town, less than ten miles away, they are posting remarks to the BBC website like "Strike? What strike?" The whole panic buying thing is being fanned into a forest fire by the media. Bad news attracts customers.

Filled my tank yesterday as I am going to DS tomorrow to look after kids for a few days. What is it like in Wiltshire as I have to come back at the weekend?

Marmite has gone up in Mr T from 2.05 to 2.50   I get through a jar a fortnight :o
Mr S is still at 2.07 so am going to run mysupermarket.com on the whole shop, and if it comes out comparable, I'm switching, clubcard points or not, don't mess with the yeast extract! :rotfl:

    Hi Claireabelle
Try Mr T's own brand Yeast Extract - my lot prefer it to the original and it's usually £1.90ish. However, only one of my nearest three Tesco's sell it so you might have to hunt around... Good Luck! :D

Hi there (she says assuming somewhere someone may be listening)

With all the recent price hikes i have formulated a plan!

Instead of putting my savings in the bank where i will get a naff % return on my money i am putting my money in my pantry:D

Let me explain Food prices have gone up some even doubled or tripled....wages stay the same:mad:

So your money buys you less than it did.... if we had bought a years worth of rice 6 months ago our "investment" would have doubled and we would be saving money now (by not having to buy it now)

I would like this thread to be about methods of food storage, reasons for food storage, recipes for using what you store and for passing on special offers at supermarkets

Very good thinking shaz - we've always got 2-3 weeks supplies but I'd like to get more at todays prices before they soar up much more. Unfortunately how much we can buy to store depends on current income so its very much a bit by bit process - any ideas are welcome.

I chuck bogofs in (when it is something we like) and one goes in the food cupboard and one goes in a box in the loft if use by date is OK. I am in construction trade and OH is in furniture, so if things get worse neither of us will be working. I try to put in tins of tuna, salmon, corned beef, stewed steak etc. with odd tins of fruit/veg and pulses so if we are destitute we can still feed ourselves.

I have hidden the panic box as people think I'm mad.

I have always kept at least a 7 day emergency supply of food hidden away just have to remember to rotate it once in a while. I like youshaz would love to stock up on more things.

i tend to stockup on powdered milk, just in case and things like pasta, chopped tomatos, tinned veg and soups and now also started buying tinned fruit.

i figure even if I can save a few additional items each week or even the leftovers from the end of the month that little bit extra will help in case the worse happens.

    Fantastic idea this thread shaz!

    Great idea for a thread.

I like to keep well stocked up with food - guess there is enough in for 2/3 weeks but don't have anything as posh as stock rotation or even know what I have in !!!

Would love some ideas on what to have in, storage ideas, etc.

    T xx
