    More gum.

I know it sound silly but if you chew up some gum, warm up the gum in the trousers to soften it, you can blot the old gum with the new and (sometimes) it'll stick and lift out.

now i have no idea as to what it is called, or the chemical compound, but once at school i got some gum on my blazer from under the table. i went to the science technician's lab and they rubbed a clear solvent on it, and it just dissolved the gum without harming the fabric. perhaps if you have secondary age kids you could get them to take the garment to school and ask the technician there?
  • Hello again - the result - Old Stylers 1, chewing gum 0.

I don't really know who to thank with this because I tried just about all of the tips and suggestions but the mark is barely visible now so we won :j

Off topic slightly, whenever I hear about chewing gum being stuck to things I get really cross.

I think perhaps I need to get a life - I remember oh so clearly taking my lovely brand spanking new Heaven 17 LP to school when I was in the sixth form in 1983/4 (we were lucky enough to have a record player in the common room and it was a bid to stop the school slappers brigade from playing UB40's Red Red Wine over and over and over and over and over again).

Anyway, one of said slappers brigade (she had no idea how to put foundation on - her face was almost orange and she had a very obvious foundation and powder tidemark around her jawline) was not best pleased at the removal of UB40 from the playlist (we'd only heard it about 120 times that day), so she 'accidentally' squished her gum into the inside sleeve of my lovely pristine LP cover. I never did manage to get it off

There you go, 20 or more years later and I would still like to punch her lights out - do you think I should let these feelings of anger go now?? :D:D

    HAIRSPRAY!!!!

Is the best stuff I have found! it makes the gum go hard so it is much easier to get off!!!!! So for future ref because everyone now seems to be gum free... I'm too late.... nevermind, it still works really well I promise!

Also Katiepops: see if you can track her down through friends reunited and then put gum in her hair or something!! or maybe let it go I'm not sure really...
oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!

OK Old stylers. Major help needed. Just been to the bar for MSE Andrea's birthday with the team. Unfortunately there was some chewing gum on the seat.

Now it's on my trousers (and i know i'm supposed to freeze them). Yet it is also on my leather shoes, worse still im running off to film tomorrow and i need these shoes and one of them is covered in this masticatory stuff! So without scraping off the leather with a knife - how do i get the gum off?

    Helpppppppppppp!

In the shop where I worked we used to have a can of freeze spray to get gum out of the carpet- you'd freeze it with a blast of liquid butane (or something) and then chip it off with a blunt tool. If you haven;t got time to leave them in the frrezer then you could see if you can find a can of 'compressed air' which is used for blasting dust out of computers/cameras etc.- it's actually butane and you get a good blast of freezing liquid butane out of them if you turn them upside down. Quite what effect that would have on fabric or leather though, I don't know:eek:.
