i,m going off track slightly here but my daughter had gum in her hair once and i used fairy washing up liquid rubbed in then combed out, it was so easy i could believe it i know its not the same as on pants but i found that the liquid just totally took the stickiness away  i suppose it also depends if you have a big clump stuck on the pants or a sticky patch:confused:

i have removed chewing gum from carpet, shoes, clothing, car seat etc over the years with good old peanut butter - smooth of course otherwise you end up with the peanuts crushed everywhere, which isnt a good look lol....then a good wipe with a soapy damp cloth gets the residue of the oil from the peanut butter out and all is usually well
    'Normal' is a dryer setting.

Well, i tried everything but the peanut butter and wd40. These are my next as i put them in the washing machine after the vinegar. Still not great as its white residue on black trousers.

Try "sticky stuff remover" from Lakeland Ltd about £3.99. It is a biggish bottle so lasts ages. It really works and it is great for removing sticky labels of my bargains.

a bar of vanish soap works wonders on chewing gum takes off anything even if it gets in hair also removes the sticky stuff on skin left over from elastoplasts

Got as similar problem. Just found my only new bit of clobber I bought at christmas has what looks like chewing gum on it. Problem is it's from Friday and only noticed today, it's on a nice new jumper as well.

Obviously it's more delicate than jeans so any tips appreciated, cant hack it off like you do on denim.

i thought if you put it in freezer say overnite then the gum should stiffen and should easily break off

Freezing has removed some of the mystery substance, not 100% certain it is chewie. Like I say though, removing gunk from wool is different and a lot more difficult than the likes of denim.

    Thanks
