My ds announced an hour ago that he forgot to tell me he had got CG on his trousers at school today. 'Course after all these hours it had well and truly adhered,it was also blue gum of different consistancy to normal. I did the usual freezing with an ice cube but it never really got very hard. Left with quite a lot of sticky residue I googled and in desperation (he has managed to lose a pair of trousers already this week so need these for tomorrow!) I came up with this:
heat white vinegar, then soak the mark in the vunegar. Scrub with an old tooth brush-little balls of gum come away! Repeat as necessary.Once you are happy, apply normal washing liquid to mark and wash to get vinegar out.

You can still see a feint mark, but they are absolutely fine to wear, crisis solved till next time!
Hope this helps someone else sometime!

At my old school you used to be able to go and see the science technicians if you got chewing gum on your clothes and they would remove it straight away with a chemical of some kind.

This was only about 5 years ago so worth mentioning to your kids in case it happens in the future!
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

foreversomeday, it was the same for me when I was at school too! I had forgotten about that! Mind you, they were never very happy about it, so I tended not to bother going to them, and then ended up having to get new trousers!

SuziQ, great tip, thanks! Glad you found something that worked!

He was sent to the school nurse (!) who recemended the freezing tip-which can work well if used quickly, but it had been on there around 8 hours when he told me! Anyway they're just out the tumble dier, look perfectly presentable although a slight shadow of where it was. Don't want to buy new ones this close to the summer hols,he'll have grown a couple of inches by september!

Hello all, mind if I join you?

Basically yesterday morning I noticed some chewing gum stuck to the back of my favourite jeans. I phoned my mum and she said to put them in the freezer and then pick it off. Well I put them in there last night and got them out about an hour ago, and the stuff still hasn't come out completely - most of it has gone but there's a funny shiny patch where the last of it is.

I'm a poor student so I can't really afford any fancy expensive products to get rid of it, and therefore this thread is kind of to ask what people would recommend to get the last of the chewing gum out. I will try anything to get rid of it - within reason! - so please tell me if there's anything you'd suggest. Preferably a household product as my nearest supermarkets (a tiny Co-op and a slightly bigger Aldi) don't really have much in the way of specific stain removers...

    Thanks in advance!

some ideas on here for using warmed up vinegar

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • Try a baby wipe they are pretty good or washing up liquid with a sprinkle of sugar & scrub in then wash - that gets paint and oil out as well
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Mayonaise works, put in on the chewing gum and it softens it then pick it off. Vinegar is also supposed to be good.
    Waddle you do eh?
