How do you remove gum from clothing?

Or smile sweetly at the guy in the dry cleaning shop - trichloroethylene (tippex thinner for those who remember the stuff) dissolves it without melting acrylic jumpers. Still cheaper than buying a new jumper and the guy might do it for free if you smile enoughI could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

peanut butter is suppose to work tho ive never tried it0

Test a wee bit with some acetone free nail varnish remover. I've removed really sticky labels from plastic without marking it (or melting it!) with this. I've also used it on my son's Nintendo DS to remove all the stickers. Never tried it on clothes but i'm thinking if it's the acetone free stuff it won't do any damage to acrylic.
Good luck.0 -
Wahey!
I just found this. It also recommends the acetone free stuff for removing chewing gum from clothes. http://www.wisegeek.com/how-can-i-remove-chewing-gum-from-clothing.htm0 -
I was at a gig a few days ago, and someone must have stuck their chewing gum to the barriers because by the end I was covered in it (ugh). I removed any lumps, but it's melded into the fabric of my favourite scarf (a jersey fabric) and the shoulder of my jacket. Does anyone have any advice on getting it out (don't think ice will work as it's got into the fabric), or even if dry cleaning would work as I'd do that to rescue it?0

Put it in the freezer overnight0

Ditto.....Freezer should do it.0

I'd agree with the freezer - it makes the gum brittle, and you can them pick it off before it goes soft again
Vile stuff - I'd ban it if I were in charge :rotfl:
More in this thread; I'll merge this later to keep ideas together.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Thanks- I tried the ice, but I've got most of the gum on the outside off. The problem is that it has kind of melded into the fabric, so it's getting that out if possible that I need help with. Any ideas? There's lots of stuff on the web about using vinegar, peanut butter etc, but has anyone used any that actually work?0
