Errr... by the way, does yeast (the sort that comes in little foil sachets in a box) last beyond its sell-by date?

Bargain Rzl, I'm not sure that I'd risk it if it was out of date as all the other ingredients will be wasted if it doesn't work.

If you do want to chance it mix the yeast with a little warm water and some sugar to see if it bubbles or froths before adding to the machine. That way you'll know if it's still 'live'.

Catowen, glad the dr and dentist went ok yesterday.
    sparklygirl and RuthieB, welcome! :hello:

The gardening is now done and it's all been watered and looks tidy, but I managed to break one of the courgette plants when I was moving it into the greenhouse. :( Just having a coffee and then I'd better go and face the dust.

Sorry havent posted much lately, but things have been cr*p at Shezville (wont go into details), and to top it off someone stole DH's van friday - so felt too miserable to post - but thats nothing compared to your situation ((smokey)) - so I've just gotta get on with it!

Re the rubbish: My council only delivers a roll of recycling bags every 13wks, and I usually run out -I dont know why they cant give you 2 rolls??
They want you to recycle more, just so long as its no more than 1 bag?:rotfl:
otherwise the binmen will go on strike for picking up more I suppose!

Yesterday I spent all day trying to sort out my sisters claim for a Freedom Pass (disabled) - The Social Services and the Mobility Team just have not got a clue what they are doing!! Didnt even take down my name & tel no properly to call me back! How do these idiots get these jobs:wall: D*ckH*ds!

So Charliesmum - count me in on the Grumpy Old Woman club!:rotfl:

anyway, sun's out and I've been and cut grass and paint a wall at my sisters house, and DH is painting the hallway in preparation of mum's return from Oz on sunday.

Kids are back at school, (but off Thurs too) so its back to the mad rush of football, dancing, swimming lessons!:rotfl:
I also asked the dance teacher to put on an adults Tap Class for the mums after we have dropped the kids off - She is going to try and sort one out! Hope she does cos that will be great!!! :T Have you started your ballet yet Bargainrzl?? Good luck with the Panny! My asda was ransacked the other day cos they reduced all the bread flour to 30p! sorry to hear about yr friend too.

Morning again - am signed off w*rk for the week - yay. This was not without some trauma though. I've never needed a doctors note before so thought I could just sort of tell him that I'd been ill - cough a bit and that would be that but no. First I had to get the appointment - receptionist told me I didn't sound ill enough for an emergency appointment (get her!) so I explained taht I needed a note today, she said i could come in on thursday, i said i needed it today as I'd self certificated for a week, she said i should have made an appointment last week, but I didn't know i was going to be as ill as this!!!!!. Anway dr, who was new to me, said that my chest and so on was clear. Well yes, said I but I'm still coughing all night and don't want to go back to work untill I'm properly better, should have come in last week, I didn't know it was going to last as long as this - it never has before - anyhoo I've got the note and am off for the rest of the week but will ensure next time that I clog up the waiting room, spreading my germs over all and sundry, just in case. Cycled back home via tesco and feel really rubbish. haven't eaten properly for a while so decided to just get what I fancy and s*d the expence - that turned out to be some happy chicken, half a jar of olives and a salad cream sandwich (no definitely not pregnant)

Nice to hear from you Anniestar

Welcome to Sparklygirl and RuthieB - hope you have fun here!

I've just got one load of washing off the line and it's dried in no time; I've just put a second load out. It's really lovely here at the moment - glad I picked today to do the sheets and towels.

I've done SOME paperwork but not as much as I should have done; I'll catch up tomorrow. On the plus side, I gave the house a good clean which always makes me feel more positive.

My DGS has nut allergy day on Thursday but not DGD who is in the infant section. Their Mum is a geography teacher and has to go on a field trip to a local zoo so she will probably take DGS with her (which he won't mind at all) and I shall fetch DGD from school. She loves school and would be so upset if her school went on strike!

Anyway, off to make a rice pudding! Not for me, can't stand the stuff, but DH loves it!

    See you all later.

tried to get petrol while I was out as I was sitting on empty and only managed to get it at the fourth petrol station I tried!:eek: Even then I had to sit in a queue for half an hour. Folks are going crazy out there...and there isnt even a strike yet
found out why they are wanting to strike and have to say I am not sympathetic. apparently they are being asked to pay in to their own pensions....join the real world! 6% comes off my salary every month!

Redruby/Pink - thanks for the advice on the yeast. That's what I thought, too. Not worth risking a loaf worth of ingredients for some dodgy yeast. Will pick some up at Asda this evening. It will probably mean I don't get around to making my first loaf until at least tomorrow (as by the time I get home from Asda there will be no point starting one). Of course in an ideal world I would pop into mini-Tesco on the way home to pick some up so I could start off some dough before heading out on my main shopping trip, however I have a little inkling that carting a large box containing the BM onto the bus, off the bus, into Tesco, round Tesco, out of Tesco, back onto the bus and home might not be the most practical thing in the world :rotfl:

Shez, yes, this will be week 3 of the ballet lessons (Thursdays). I am enjoying it though I'm finding it tricky as I have very curvy legs with full calves, which means I physically can't get my heels together in first position without bending my knees (and in fifth position I can't get my feet anywhere near one another :o)

    Hi Bargain Rzl

I used to hate being called Ruth as a kid, I wanted to change it to Tracy! Even now I hate it when people call me Roof. I used to work in a call centre and the amount of times customers heard my name wrong and used to call back and ask for Bruce - that got a few laughs round the office I can tell you.

Ok, I had a quick look through my cupboards and fridge and have decided on chicken pasta bake as I have roast chicken left over from Sunday nights tea. Ah, just ralised on pasta I have is taglietelle (sp?). Hmm might have to re-think that one. Any ideas? I've got loads of herbs, spices, potatoes, tinned toms, rice green and red peppers, onions, carrots, peas and sweetcorn. What can you brill lot come up with??

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

    Hi Ruthibe73,

That selection of ingredients sounds like a pizza topping - or a couple of different pizza toppings - to me ;)

About being called Ruth - I'm the eldest of three, and my sister and brother both have names you can shorten if so desired - I used to get a bit annoyed that I didn't have that choice! Mind you, both of them are now invariably known by one-syllable versions of their names anyway. People only call me Ruthie in jest, and only my mum is allowed to call me Roo :naughty: I find it quite handy to have a simple name, as I have to spell my surname to everyone as it is, without having to spell my first name too :D
