DISCOUNTDIVA I do not envy you with an 18 year old DD in the house.Mine left home at 18 thank god, cos I asked her for £25 a week rent!!!That was for everything inc her car insurance!!!  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I think she now realises it was a mega good deal, but too late was the cry;) :D
The WM is on, and the garden needs cutting but it's far too wet ;)

My dd won't be leaving home at 18...so I'll have this for some time to come. She will be away for extended periods of time during gap year and then after that will be Uni, 4 years as she's hoping to do European Studies with Spanish and Italian. That might bring good hols LOL, she has to do placements in both Spanish and Italian speaking countries.

Am taking her on the first leg to Sweden in August. I get to spend a couple of days away at my friends she is going to live with for a few months. OoooH! 20 hours on the boat with meals provided. How will I cope? Got the luxury cabin, it was a fiver more than the bog-standard after you took off the fact that breakfast is included on the up-scale and not on the standard.

Hi everyone - I'm nicely cream-crackered now because I've been to the gym and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rain has stopped and it looks as if the sun is trying to come out.

Tattycath - let's hope the filtering software does its job. Hope DD's migraine stops soon.

Well, the jury's out on salad cream with cottage pie! I don't like salad cream anyway so I would not abuse a HM cottage pie with it but DH loves it. I think it comes from when he was a child and he and his brothers were watched like hawks whenever they had tomato sauce, salad cream and so on and were pounced on if they had a smidgeon too much. He said he still feels as if he has to hide it underneath something! I wouldn't dare deprive him of it! Mind you, he's not the worst case in the family; DS2's bride-to-be doesn't like gravy with a roast dinner - she'll have mayonnaise with it! Even my DH thinks that's odd!

Well, I have some office work to be getting on with but I think I'll do after lunch - everything else is done so I'm going to treat myself to a sit down and do some knitting.

Oh, by the way - those with coughs that won't go away; you should go to the doctor because you may have chest infections. There's nothing worse than losing sleep due to a cough and the doctor may be able to give you some anti-biotics. I know just how bad it can be because my cough lasted ages after I was ill at Christmas.

    See you all later.

    Kathy

DH feels that after gap year she should get her [strike]@r$e[/strike] self there and get it done with, but I didn't go till mid 20s either.

Not sure how the £ will pan out over the next year. She plans Sweden for 2-3 months, hoping for Mexico 6 month placement at International Guide Centre and then to w*rk for the rest of the year. Sweden she will need pocket money, but basically will be attending a school partly learning Swedish and partly helping with English conversation. She's taking her cello with her, so hopes to do some music while she is there as well, will be able to borrow electric bass I think. Will probably do her final cello exam during gap year.

My friends have said that she'll be a member of their family and they will look after the housekeeping side of stuff. (I had each of their girls here for a month to improve their English. They were younger when they came, only just 16. Friends were always so pleased what we did for them.) But she'll need some money to travel round a bit, you can't go to a country and not travel.

After that Uni. Obviously Student loan. She has a little ££ put aside by her GPs and invested if she spends more than she plans in gap year. It's there for something special. Or it will help her thru Uni. Obviously we'll help where we can.

Yeah, we need to get the ££ paid off from the rest of the extension, asap, because as soon as dd says she's going to XYZ place, dh will be wanting to use the excuse for a hol LOL!
