apple-mint - hope the farmer's market was fab - how much meat are you serving now then? I think that it's a normal problem to expect too much meat in a serving (cheap mince and battery chickens made it cheap, rather than a luxury) and it's not all that good for us - I'd be interested to hear how much people here think is enough

Hi Greenlogo, the farmer's market was fab. Got a big pack of lamb, 2 packs of special flavour pork sausages and some chilli and lime smoked mackrel.

Portion size. I've been cutting down our portion size by half - to make the meat portion about a 1/4 of the plate rather than half! We bought some de-boned chicken thighs at the farmers market 2 weeks ago. The first time I cooked them I found that I could lay them out flat (now without the bones) and I was staggered at how much meat there was. Normally we have 2 per person - but there was roughly the same amount of meat as a small breast! So I now only do one chicken thigh (deboned) each. The other night I coated them with a curry sauce (simply yoghurt, curry powder and corridander mixed together and poured over - then popped in the oven for half an hour). Yesterday I sliced them up and wrapped them in sliced streaky bacon (a bit like pigs in blankets). Between two of us - two chicken thighs sliced up made 8 of these. I roasted some tomatoes, a pepper and made lemon & corriander cous-cous - and it more than filled the plate. OH was more than happy with his portion size.

I now split the minced lamb packs in two and make sure I get at least 3 meals from a small joint.

I think the tendency has been to cook to the pack sizes that can be bought in supermarkets - but now I am buying from the farmers market I am buying in bulk and mostly re-packaging for the freezer, so I can control the amount. I try to think about how much meat comes in a fancy restaurant meal and limit to around that - working on making interesting, tasty meals (served with a variety of veg) with a healthy dessert rather than bulk feeding! :rotfl:

Hope you are all well. Rough night again but back up London tomorrow to see one of my specialists so hopefully he can fix me  Know he's going to be jabbing me with needles and have a phobia against them _pale_

Anyway today only 1 washload to do :D , 20 min blitz, sort out DD's school stuff ready for tuesday, clean down kitchen cupboard fronts-if OH wants to..lol. Also need to do an intinerary of the freezers as the new one is due in next 2 weeks and would like to empty as much as poss.

Breakie: bacon butties, lunch: something light and dinner: chicken breast/lamb chops, roast spuds, little mash spud, HM yorkies, stuffing, parsnips, carrot & swede mash, peas and gravy.

    'Morning everyone! :hello:

I've never started the OS daily thread before, but I'm up nice and early because we are going to stand on a car boot today rather than just shop. Boxes are all ready - just have the family to sort out now!

Previously I've been giving my bits and bobs away, but thought I'd be more OS and try and make a little cash from my clear out. However, most of today's load is from youngest daughter's room - so I think she will be benefiting from our efforts today :rotfl:

    Must have breakfast now.

Hope everyone has a lovely OS day, today :D

Ahhhh! I've posted the OS daily at the same time as Penny-Pincher!

Squeaky - can you merge my thread into Penny Pincher's so that we are all on the same thread?

What are the odds of the both of us posting at 5.15am on a Sunday morning :rotfl:

    Hello all.

Strange morning for me. I'm at my parents' house and the only reason I'm on here is because I need the 'normality' of it, as well as need some friends to chat to, so I hope you excuse me (I know my dad will)

My dad took a real turn for the worse yesterday and TBH, we're at that "waiting" stage now. I've been up all night with him as my mum is exhausted and seems to have had a full night's sleep for once. So I've been lying in my old bedroom, then going in every half hour when he taps on the headboard, to give him a drink or to readjust his posture or pillows. He's actually asleep now. I've just rung home as it's the first time I've not been there when DS2 woke up - I wasn't intending to stay so they weren't prepared for it either. They are fine and were terrorising Mr TM, so it made me smile, esp as DS2 wanted to talk to me and he hardly ever takes the phone.

So, today, who knows? When my sister shows up, I shall go home for a while to freshen up.

I may be around later, just cos I need to read all your posts. It gives me something to do instead of just sitting waiting and staring at the walls and TBH, doing 'normal' routine things keeps you sane too. I just may not be posting a lot, depending what happens.

Take care all and sorry to have put such a glum mood on your Sunday.

    Morning All!

First time I've posted on the daily thread too!

Off to London Eye today! Its the last day that the kids are off school and we are all able to do something together (cos I'm back at work tomorrow!) plus my FREE Family Rail Card expires today, so we are going to make the most of it.

Be a MSE'r, we are taking a cheap picnic! And we have Roast Beef in Gravy for our tea!

Weather is supposed to ge great today - but not looking that great at the moment! I Hope its a sunny celar day, the kids haven't been on the eye before!

    Have a nice day everyone!
