Has anyone been on one of their 1 Euro hotel trips yet and if so, was it good??

I recall some of the dates were before now, so somebody must have been!

I'm trying to work out the most economic way of getting to my 'banked' booking in Saxony (Germany, just north of Czech border) in November, from the north of England.

My 1 Euro hotel - for upto 6 nights: http://www.schloss-schweinsburg.de/en/

I will be hiring a car whilst there, but the nearest sensible airport for travel from UK would be handy!! Any tips on airport and airline??

How are people getting on with this? Are the bookings being honoured? I'm off to Krakow next month and a bit of reassurance that things will work would be helpfull!
  • Well I can honestly say that this was one of the best bargains I've ever had!

    :D:D:D:D:D

I was one of the few lucky ones who managed to bag a £1 room at The Athenaeum Hotel, a 5-star hotel in Mayfair:

    http://www.athenaeumhotel.com/

We needed a room for 29th August 2008 as we would be arriving at St Pancras International that night on the Eurostar from Paris. When I saw Martin's email, I logged on and tried my luck at finding a £1 room for that night.

I was shocked to get a room at this particular hotel  as I would've been happy with a Travelodge for that price! :o

We arrived at the hotel at 11pm at night, tired and scruffy from our train journey, to be greeted at reception by a very friendly person who thought our hotel booking costing £1 was very entertaining - but we were in the system, and our room was ready for us. We declined any help with baggage ;) and were told that if we had anything from the minibar, it would cost more than the price of our room!

We went up to our room - yes, the key worked! - and the "evening turndown" had already been done (phew, as we didn't have much change for tipping the domestic staff :rotfl:) - our bed was turned down, radio was playing in the background, air con was on, and the room was lovely :D with a power shower and marble bathroom, Neutrogena toiletries, lovely soft bath robes and hot chocolate. :D

When checking out the following morning, my partner asked, "Should we pay cash?" :o and it was actually £1.17 as VAT had been added - so they got £1.20 and were told to keep the change. We have no shame. :rotfl: The constant thought going around my head in life is "What would Martin do?" :money: (think I need to get that printed on a t-shirt, though my boss is called Martin and he might think I was talking about him - bad idea!) I doubt Martin wouldn't have felt bad about it so I'm trying not to. :D

Here are some pics if anyone is interested in seeing what £1.17 can get a MSE fan in London... :rotfl:

Yes, my krakow hotel booking was honoured, and a very nice hotel it was too. Contrary to what was on the booking, they told me that breakfast was included, but then made me pay for it in the morning. It seemed churlish to argue.

    I'd almost forgotten about this!

Reminds me that I'm entitled to 6 consecutive nights in a hotel in a castle in Germany for the princely sum of 6 Euros in November!!

Don't know if I can wangle this trip though!
