Im off to Basel! Im off to Basel!

I got a room for 1 night for next week in Basel, Switzerland.
Only 1 night was available so i booked that for next Wednesday. Had to pay taxes as well, it comes to about £2.50 in total for 1 night, so not bad at all.
The website kept crashing for me loads as well, as soon as 7pm hit the site became unresponsive. I had 2 browsers open
.
finally after lots of clicking and refreshing i managed to find the room i did.
Earlier on in the day i had checked easyjet for an idea of flight prices to different locations in the offer.
So, long story short i am going for 2 days next week (it was £20 cheaper to stay an extra day and fly back on fri than thurs), I will be staying in a ymca hostel for the 2nd night (Around £15 a night)
It will be a bit of a shock gonig from a £100 a night room to a 5-to-a-room youth hostel.
The total flight cost with easyjet was £60.
To be honest, i am spending money i dont really have for this, but it seemed too good an opportunity to pass and i have not been away for quite a long time, so i kinda feel like i needed it.
Thanks to this site and Martin for notifying us about it. I only discovered this website a few weeks ago and i have been reading like mad since! (also bought martins book)
I agree that whilst not really a moneysaving tip and i have ended up spending money i wouldnt have otherwise, i am still grateful for being notified about it.
Just registered to post this, sorry to the people who did not get what they wanted. i was really not expecting to myself.0 -
Well done aux :T , and welcome to MSE.0

Just wanted to say thanks.
Got 3 nights in Italy - 4* hotel - for 3€. Almost got another 4* hotel in Milan for 4 days, but website crashed at the last minute.
Also, accessed the 1€ offers at EXACTLY 7pm, and two of the Italian hotels, including the one on the Amalfi coast (the one I really wanted!) had already been marked as sold out, which should have been impossible, considering I had checked one minute earlier and the offer wasn't available then.
Well Done Bluebird :T
Thanks for registering and a BIG welcome to MSE

Nobjocki.....hmmmm,
Hi, thanks for showing the real meaning of the first part of your screen name! For Goodness sake, this site is supposed to be about money saving. Before you protest, might I add that, the majority of people may not hold down £100k pa jobs, therefore: £1 per night in a great hotel is indeed a bargain. Furthermore, I do respect your comment, but please respect that the preponderance of MSE members are gifted, (I believe), with half a brain cell and therefore realise that travel is not included, but for a night in London this works out extremely cheap......in the words of this site; budget, budget, budget!
I was unlucky enough not to get a hotel room, but I will try again next time.
Get a life.
I too have an opinion on this subject and it happens to be critical of the original newsletter about this offer - but each time I express that opinion on this thread which has received 102,000 views it keeps getting shunted to the Side Feedback Resources Bar which funnily enough has only received 16,000 views.
You might not agree with my opinions but surely in a site dedicated to championing consumer rights it deserves to be heard by as many site-users as possible - and without being abused simply because you don't agree with it.
C'mon Martin - stop acting like one of the big organisations you so readily and publicly like to challenge.0 -

Please refrain from requesting the exchange of personal details either on the forum, via PM or email; particularly for the purposes of selling/trading/exchanging/swapping or giving as gifts. This includes posting links to your ebay auctions, or other forms of advertising.
If someone appears to be selling items on the board it may be deleted by the board guides/forum team. The aim is to protect site users as however honourable the intention, your safety is paramount.

This was definitely a genuine money-saving tip for me! Just yesterday I was actively looking for a less-than-£49 room for the very night I ended up booking for £1...
so I've saved at least £48 and my partner and I will be staying in a hotel that's a heck of a lot nicer than your average Travelodge.
We would've been booking a £49 Travelodge in London for that night anyway, so I'm not spending any more money than I would've... in fact considerably less!
:T Congratulations to everyone else who managed to grab a room!0 -

Congrats jetfighter,
There is no need for you, or anyone else to justify their reasons for booking a £1 room
I hope you both have a lovely time :j0 -
Just want to say how happy I am to read that quite a few MoneySavers bagged the bargain rooms.
It's always a gamble on whether to include these things; but as its a superb bargain for many if you get it. I think it was well worth it... always good to do a heads up
Enjoy the rooms all those who got themMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

had 2 rooms in a 4 star hotel in paris on my birthday, reserved but half way thru loading "error go back to main menu":(congrats to those who managed it though.as for the arguement, it is moneysaving, if martin posted 50p off a box of tampons, the single men here wouldn't be !!!!!ing at him that he's not saving them money and that they're losing out buying things they don't need.If you don't want a hotel room (for 1 pound or otherwise) don't buy one, some people do want a hotel, or a holiday, and they've saved hundreds of pounds.0

Now I'm going to take a look at what I've just booked
Hi Coconut Man
Well done for getting your hotel stay for such a great price. I completely forgot about this so missed out completely, but hey ho never mind.
We stayed at the Purple Hotel City of London a few months ago, and got a special weekend rate of £50 per room per night, and we were quite pleased with that price. Very pleased with the hotel, nice room pleasant staff, not much of a view, but could see the tower of london from our room. Not sure how you will bw travelling, but it is JUST outside the congestion zone. No parking at the hotel, but there are a couple of car parks nearby. Didn't use though as we went by train. Easy Walking distance from Tower Hill underground.
There is a Wetherspoons almost opposite, which is where we had breakfast. Seemed to be really quiet and pleasant on Saturday night.
Hope you have a great time.
