Worldwide hotel rooms for £1. Available 7pm Wed 23 April

Update Note From Martin: 23 April 10.30pm
Well quite a few MoneySavers bagged rooms for £1 or under, both in the UK and abroad. Of course, many didn't either, the hotel site was under HUGE stress as predicted. It seems most of the £1 rooms have gone now, but you may want a quick peek... see the info below.

What's it about?
This is potentially a great deal... hotel booking website HRS.com is offering 1,000 £1 room bookings at good quality hotels worldwide....
The bad news is, it's a new promotion and publicity event, and as I'm writing, the exact details aren't confirmed. All looks good now, but when it's revealed in full, who knows?
Thus there's no guarantee how good it’s going to be, because it’s the first offer of its kind. But we wanted to give you a heads up in case it's a corker.
Rooms available:
7pm Wed 23 April
Do be aware it may be creaking under heavy traffic.
WARNING! It may sell out within minutes...
If you're not online then, it's unlikely you'll get one

Why the hurry if they're not available yet?
There is a regular 500 place £1 UK hotel room promotion run by Hoxton hotels, that we put in the weekly email whenever it happens. Everytime the rooms go like proverbial hotcakes. This promotion will finish as soon as all 1,000 one quid rooms have gone, so it’s fingers on mice at 7pm sharp.
Which hotels and dates?
HRS is being hush-hush about exactly which dates and hotels are available. It’s promised that, come 7pm (BST), there’ll be a special page linking from the homepage detailing destinations, hotels and dates.
The 1000 £1 nights are spread over 100 different hotels. To get you started HRS.com has told us a few of the destinations that will be on offer; some of them look pretty swanky.

Can you book more than one night?

You can book to up to six rooms if you're fast enough. Every hotel offers different dates. Some hotels offer long open dates of two month but some hotels offer only single nights like 1 May, 7 May and 14 May, so it depends on the offer, if you are able to make your reservations in a row.

Get a 1p flight to go with your £1 room

If you do manage to bag a bargain room, remember to use the Flightchecker to find cheap flights (though sadly there are no 1p flights to Shaghai yet!). For full details on cheap flights to all destinations read the Cheap Flights guide.

I think it's a brilliant and valid thing to put on the site, we have absolutley no money and i would love to take my daughter to london. If i can be one of the lucky ones who manages to get a £1 room then brilliant, if not then i'm no worse off! On the flight side of it, I paid 0p to to go to Norway in May, i did then pay taxes but it was hardly much more. Ultimately no one is forcing you to spend any money, if you were silly enough to pay £1 for a room in shanghai and then spend hundreds getting there that is your decision, surely if you were trying to get a room there then you would have checked flights first!!!

I think some responsibilty for spending is what's needed here. Also Martin is just telling you what is out there and that is what we need, i don't have time to surf around looking for these things. ultimately 600 or 1000 people will get a room for £1 it might not be you and I but someone will. Also it's not drawing people into the site as it's come through a weekly newsletter so we are already on here anyway.

Shame to live so negatively 8-)

    Hi folks,

If you disagree with my editorial stance, that's fine, but could you do it in the this site board please not here.

This is a practical thread to discuss the holiday offer.

I have started a specific discusson thread on this and moved the posts to there, you can read it here

Thanks for letting us know about this site. I have a trip to Paris booked for next month with my boyfriend. We already have flights and need a hotel. A hotel for one pound, or even one euro would be fantastic!

  • i think this is a valid thread and a shrewd move by the site promoting their hotel booking service.
They realise that the people that are on here desparate to get a bargain and boast they have a hotel room in signapore for £1 will never go - the thrifty on here get carried away and buy something as it is cheap regardless if they want it or use it or need it.

Meanwhile great awareness for the site with those less likely to be battering the site at 7pm on the dot to get a room are more likely to use the site at some point or at least be aware.

A great piece of PR all in all.

    And good luck bargain hunters!!

  • I am in agreement with mum of five, this is worth a try and if you dont get lucky then thats life!
Anything that makes a hol more affordable in my eyes is a bonus and somebody has to get them.
Like has been said we know about this deal due to our newsletters so joe public wouldnt be aware of this and we can take the decision to look at the link or not.
I say thanks to Martin he is doing a great job all round !

I think Nobjocki had a valid point and also think Martin is wrong to move the discussion of this to another place (see early posting from Martin for link). I think Nobjocki's points and the responses are valid reading for users considering to respond to the offer at 7pm tonight. Martin's site is very useful and I'm a big fan and he is also great at promoting the site part of this is through emphasising honest values. However a major flaw in my opinion is that he doesn't address is the true time taken to invest in an offer versus the chance of being rewarded for your time invested. If he addressed this his site would genuinely be user centred in my opinion. I think Nobjocki's points come down to the fact that this one of those offers where the time and commitment to be online at 7pm and try for the offer are not necessarily being well spent . I don't critise Martin for including the offer but I do think he should have some system ( not sure how this would work - any thoughts maybe like a star rating) to weigh up the value of an offer not just financially but in terms of chances of success and time spent applying.
When an offer is unlimted, great value, easy to apply for it is a great offer. When the chances of success are very slim it is much less of an offer. Sadly at the moment these two offers are promoted by Martin in a similar way. Lets have better signposting to the true value of offers. What do you think Martin - i'm sure you know that time is also money?

Excellent post steadynerve (long time lurker? ;)).

TBeckett100 addressed this recently also, whereby there may be an offer that might save you £5, but it will take you three hours work to save that £5!

Another example is the Sony MP3's that were advertised on the Grabbit board recently. Firstly, they did not acknowledge that these offers were found by MSEers (a BIG gripe of mine!). Secondly, the great £20 MP3 offer from Argos was already a week old, and there must have been around ten available in the whole country!

Sorry, completely OT, but just fancied a moan! :p x
    Gone ... or have I?
