Worldwide hotel rooms for £1. Discussion Thread

This thread is to discuss the following £1 worldwide hotels that was included in this week's free MoneySaving email.

Please click reply to discuss, or click here to read the original deal.

What's it about?
This is potentially a great deal... hotel booking website HRS.com is offering 1,000 £1 room bookings in good quality hotels worldwide....
The bad news is, it's a new promotion & publicity event, and as I'm writing, the exact details aren't confirmed; all looks good now, but when it's revealed in full, who knows.
Thus there's no guarantee how good it’s going to be, as it’s the first offer of its kind. But we wanted to give you a heads up in case it's a corker...
Rooms available:
7pm Wed 23 April
This link should include details by the time the sale starts. Do beware it may be creaking under heavy traffic.
WARNING! It may sell out within minutes...
If you're not online then, it's unlikely you'll get one

Why the hurry if they're not available yet?
There is a regular 500 place £1 UK hotel room promotion run by Hoxton hotels, that we put in the weekly email whenever it happens. Everytime the rooms go like proverbial hotcakes. This promotion will finish as soon as all 1,000 £1 rooms have gone, so it’s fingers on mice at 7pm sharp deal.
Which hotels and dates?
HRS is being hush-hush about exactly which dates and hotels are available. It’s promised that, come 7pm 23 April, there’ll be a special page linking from the homepage detailing destinations/hotels/dates.
The 1000 £1 nights are spread over 100 different hotels. To get you started HRS.com has revealed a few of the destinations that will be on offer, some of them rather swanky 4 and 5 star places.

Far be in from me to criticise what is an excellent site with a very informative newsletter but I think you're allowing yourself to be conned.
Following on from the huge success in publicity terms of the Hoxton Hotel £1 sale - which is of genuine interest to people in the UK with limited funds who may not otherwise be able to afford to stay in London, you're being drip-fed tasty morsels by a hotel site hoping to get itself well known.
To publicise something in your news letter which you clearly know little about in terms of dates, hotels and prices is a sloppy attempt to drum up interest in this site.
The chances of anyone actually getting one of these hotel rooms is remote - and then to insinuate that they can get a £1 flight to such exotic locations as Shanghai,St Petersburg and Malta using the Flightchecker guide is a joke.
Unless I've missed something I wasn't aware these were part of the Ryanair or Easyjet schedules.
You might as well encourage people who can't afford it to play the Lottery because, yes, that too " is potentially a great deal."
Sorry,Martin, but just like John Arne Riise tonight,I think you've scored a rather silly own goal.

    .
I have to be honest, NJ does raise some very valid concerns. :)

Seems a pity not to try, though, doesn't it?

The problem is that a reputation is hard won but easily lost.
I always thought MoneySavingExpert.Com was a genuine attempt to find real value for money for people and cut through all the flim-flam and cons of the commercial world.
A £1 hotel room in Shanghai - if you are lucky enough to get it - hardly seems a bargain if you have to spend hundreds of pounds getting there and how much does the rest of your stay cost you ?
I know sometimes it must be difficult to fill the newsletter with fantastic deals but surely MSE should still filter out these internet versions of holiday scratchcards.
To freely publicise something of which you know little about and raise the expectations of people who have invested some trust in your integrity seems a peculiar choice.

I have to disagree with the above post.
What if you are a business flyer and you can choose a 1 night stopover in Singapore.
What if you are going buget to Paris but could have 1 night in a great hotel.
I have been on a 1 night hoxton break and it was great and made going to London more affordable.
A couple of weeks ago there were 1p flights to Milan, and as I now have an Electron card that is exactly what it would have cost me.
So I think that £1.04 for 2 flights to Milan and a 4* hotel for 2 people is real money saving.
Only some will be lucky, but you only have to look on the Hoxton thread on here and Hotdeals to see that plenty of us are lucky.

Well, lets see what happens and if it is all above board. I would guess that the UK and France deals go first.

I rarely agree with the Nob, but he does raise valid points.

The site will more than likely crash at 7pm and very few peeps will get a "bargain" hotel room.

Well, I prefer to know about the offer, and I might try getting one of the rooms...
