>INEOS is mortgaged to the tune of £9billion.<
Don't overlook that. By forcing this 'crisis' through stealing worker's pensions, the secretive multi-billionaire owner must be thinking that Gordon Clown has bailed out the banks with taxpayers money, perhaps he can be 'bounced' into doing the same for Ineos! After all, Calamity Brown is now so desperate, he's flinging 10s of ££ billions about willy-nilly, why not try and get some of that to "prevent the nation running out of petrol"?0 -
its the people that normally put in £10 a week which lasts them all week, that are now putting in a full tanks worth, that are causing all the problems..
i drive a lot for my living, and i always fill up my car til it is full.. (then dribble a little more in, to get a round figure on the cost!!), so i can't panic buy, i drive til i'm 1/4 full, and i fill up...
i can't wait for my local garages to run out of diesel, then i can't work... woohoo!0 -
i've let mine go to red
i hope the nearest station has unleaded or i'll be driving back on fumes and hoping the wind is behind me :rotfl::rotfl:Bring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j

going back to the original subject..... was speaking earlier to a guy who works at the Shell Stanlow refinery. He hadn't hears of the proposed strike and his only comment was ...... there is no slack in the UK refinery system to up diesel production so if Grangemouth stops producing then diesel will have to be imported from the continent which is likely to cause prices to go up.Hardly as there's always about 70 days of reserves in the UK.
Extra fuel supplies have started arriving in Scotland, to make up for possible shortages caused by the Grangemouth strike.
A tanker carrying 2,000 tonnes of diesel and 1,000 tonnes of kerosene has begun unloading its cargo at Aberdeen harbour.
EXTRA FUEL SUPPLIES
5,700 tonnes of diesel and kerosene on the Antares from Teesport
10,000 tonnes of diesel on the BIT Octania from Gothenburg
12-14,000 tonnes of diesel on the Alsterstern from Amsterdam
1,850 tonnes of motorspirit on the Audacity from Immingham
14,000 tonnes of diesel on the Anefani from Rotterdam
4,000 tonnes of diesel and kerosene on the Humber Fisher from Teesport
14,000 tonnes of diesel on the Bro Developer from Rotterdam

1 BARREL = .136 TONNES
ALL ABOVE = 62554 TONNES
GRANGEMOUTH OUTPUT=200,000 BARRELS/DAY =27,200 TONNES
SO ALL ABOVE = 2.3 DAYS SUPPLY* (* this has already been taken out of reserves by panic buying)
That excludes other losses from closing BP pipelines.
Global oil production is in decline
Usage is increasing....undeniable facts.
Watch this video (there are 7 other parts...very interesting)..it explains the maths of supply and demand in simple terms and mentions oil.

...
Grangemouth's closure has caused up to 70 platforms in the North Sea to either shut down or reduce production of oil, resulting in the loss of 700,000 barrels of oil a day.
...so the 2.3 days supply of lost output...becomes LESS than 1 days output.
and....
I also assume some of these imports were happening anyway. So what how much extra supply do they actually represent ?0 -
I have to say, I drive a 100 plus mile round trip through Lothians/Borders everyday and have had no problems getting unleaded petrol at all over the last week.
A lot of this 'panic buying/massive queues' stuff is newspaper talk.0 -
No shortages in NW Scotland, our petrol/diesel comes in by ship tanker, just like the supply thats just arrived in Aberdeen.
Of course if it was just about money then yes, it would be cheaper for the Government to put money into the pension fund than it would be to lose out on the income from the closedown. However they obviously cant do that or everyone else will expect the same.0
